Thoughts on AI

AI is here and it's terrifying. As a professional commercial artist above and beyond the fetish drawings I produce, the impact that AI will have on my professional life will be profound. I never actually considered that the machines would be coming for my job and I didn't think artists were an endangered species, but here we are. There are so many ethical issues involved in how AI sources images without compensation or credit in order to create its "art". Right now the technology is improving at an alarming speed, faster than the law can catch up to it.

I believe we're at a "Wild West" stage of AI use, similar to the way the internet was virtually unregulated when it first appeared. These free image generators are producing images that improve in quality every day, and I believe the way that they can create incredibly realistic sexual scenarios of famous people will eventually be their undoing. Celebs will band together to sue AI companies for use of their images or their voices. Money will be lost, image generators will most likely no longer be free.

So what are the positives? Against my better judgement I started playing around with Bing to see if it could potentially be a useful tool. Often I need a very specific body position to use as reference, or a difficult angle of a building or a piece of equipment. AI can quickly cobble together something that I can use as an underdrawing for a challenging pose or a detailed background for a drawing.

But, of course, I had to play around with actually creating complete foot and tickle art like so many others are doing. A good friend pointed out that this could be viewed as "competition research" - seeing what my evil robotic competitor is really capable of. And what I found is that it CAN be very good at making sexy art, but that the window in which to do so seems to be rapidly closing.

You see, most AI generators are figuring out that people are using it to make smut, so many terms that you type into them are blocked already. Any overtly sexual concepts, mentions of bondage and most celebrity names have already been blocked. Attempt to bypass those too many times and you get a temporary suspension from the platform. If there IS any artistry in using AI to make erotic art, it's in the verbal gymnastics you have to perform to get around these barriers.

So here's my dilemma. I'm pretty anti AI, but in playing around with it I have created some surprisingly effective images. I don't think any of us will be able to do this for much longer. My poll question is this: do you want to see them? Not to replace my regular drawing updates, but as fun little bonus posts in between them? Vote and let me know.

Meanwhile, sure, show us the bonus posts, always making clear that you maybe can't copyright them and that you aren't charging more because of them. As a fan of your skills, I'm curious to see how you use the new tool.

I am sorry to hear how your work is so quickly being affected. As a musician I remember how synthesized and sampled sounds put more and more musicians out of business. When the completely synthetic soundtrack music for CHARIOTS OF FIRE appeared, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. (So, please get a teeth guard if you feel the need!)
