UPDATE INTERLUDE: When I first started my site back in 2007 I knew that I wanted the landing page to be something special and a place where there would be a free piece of art that was an example of what you’d find if you joined. I decided to update the home page quarterly with the seasons. I also wanted the home pages to have a sort of fun retro feel, like the covers of the old men’s adventure magazines from the 1940s and 50s. This one titled “Test Subject” was the first home page at the site’s launch. I’ve also included all of the steps from the genesis of the idea to the final rendered piece. I did a couple of quick sketches to determine a layout, then started to tighten up what the tickle victim looked like. You can see I initially had one of the men in the background as a more sinister military type but I ultimately thought that was a little too Nazi-ish. So I replaced him with a scientist in a lab coat. Hope you like this peek behind the scenes at what it takes to bring you a tickling drawing!
