Drawing on square autograph board, a struggle with water-absorbent paper

However, I'm drawing on a type of paper that absorbs water on the surface, coating it with paper and water, absorbing it with water, and absorbing it with water.
The whole paper is absorbed, processed, cut, and cut with watercolor paints. However, as I struggle, I'm gradually getting a better sense of density and color balance.
