What's up y'all! I wanted to drop this city lights emmissive texture here for everyone 'cause it really came in handy for setting up a nighttime look for my buildings on my latest project. It's as easy as plugging it in to the emission slot, and using a multiply node with a "float" or "scalar parameter" to control its intensity.
I got the image by simply taking a shot of some skyscrapers at night with a longer lens. I warped it in photoshop (or lightroom or whatever) so that the image was square, and adjusted the levels so it was mostly black, with the windows shining through. Then I just painted out any unwanted glow with a black brush, saved it out and that's it. Hope you find it useful =]
Keep an eye out for my video this Saturday where I go over my entire process for my latest piece of art in Unreal Engine.
Rock on everyone!
