I’m glad you finished this series. I can’t wait to see your reactions to the last episode and to know what your overall thoughts of the series was. Yes, Xun An’s father is really a strict father. “Tough love” is what I would describe it. As what Jake had mentioned in the above comment, the father is the authoritative figure in an Asian family and so ultimately, it means a lot to get the approval of your father when in a relationship. There is somewhat of a hierarchy in Asian families. The father is the head followed by the mother. I definitely don’t support the beating of your child like that though. But in older generational families like that, it is unfortunately a common thing.

Another reason that Jin don't want broke with his family, but "force" them to accept Bai because he thinks having parents blessings to their relationship is good for Bai's disease.
