OVERLORD- CH-67. The Monster That Doesn't Kill People
Added 2025-02-06 04:25:57 +0000 UTCThe warrior standing at the front was glowing with a pale green light. The scars on his arms, caused by the demon dog, vanished, and a surge of power emanated from his body.
There were no priests of faith present, which meant that reinforcements had arrived!
A roar suddenly reached my ears, and two armored men rushed forward.
With the help of magic such as [Armor Strengthening], [Body Strengthening], and [Weapon Sharpening], as well as the speed boost granted by Jasmine's ability, the two warriors charged into the heart of the battlefield.
Wielding a one-handed sword, one warrior killed a demon dog with a single strike. With the shield in his other hand, he crushed the skull of another hellhound.
The warrior on the other side was wielding two swords, fighting off multiple hellhounds at once, and slaying them one by one.
"It's Peter and Miles!" Someone recognized them and shouted with joy.
The arrival of Mithril-level adventurers completely disrupted the battlefield's balance. Moon Shadow's combat power was now close to the Orichalcum level.
With their strength, they could easily deal with dozens of hellhounds.
[Ice Arrow] Monica immediately unleashed her most powerful attack magic, sending ice arrows through the demon dogs.
Nearby, Ranger Darina also raised her bow. Using a short bow, which lacked the power of Aya's longbow to pierce monster skulls, she nonetheless managed to severely damage the hellhounds.
Jasmine first cast strengthening magic on the two warriors at the forefront, then quickly used [Heal Severe Injuries] on the adventurer whose thigh had been torn, leaving him bleeding profusely. She followed with [Heal Minor Injuries] to treat the injuries of the other adventurers one by one.
The number of hellhounds quickly dwindled, and the adventurers began to gain an overwhelming advantage.
"The situation has stabilized. The fire is almost out." Sitting on the rooftop of a building a street away, the three succubus girls watched the scene, "No one's died. How boring."
"Hey, Ariella, what are you eating?"
"Berry honey, made in that little village."
"Is it delicious?"
"It's okay, pretty sweet."
"I want some too~"
"I only have one left." Ariella said, "Who wants it?"
The two girls looked at each other, neither willing to give in.
"Let's make a bet." One suggested, "Who will be the first 'victim'?"
"Okay, I'll bet on that priest."
"Then I'll bet on the magician with the nice figure."
While they were still chatting, the situation among the adventurers shifted again.
Seeing that the hellhounds were nearly all wiped out, Peter, who had been charging at the front, was suddenly struck by a black whip and sent flying.
The monster hidden within the flames slowly revealed itself.
In various Japanese RPG games and other derivative works, two classic monster archetypes endure as low-level creatures, often found near novice villages. They are the "good companions" of new players.
One is the Goblin—typically thin, wretched, and with pointed ears. Goblins are evil humanoid creatures. In this world, ordinary Goblins are the lowest level monsters and are found throughout many countries.
The second is the Slime—a jelly-like or semi-liquid monster with an opaque or translucent body that can change shape, split, or merge. Even in sword-and-magic settings, slimes are quite special and eye-catching.
Ordinary slimes also serve as low-level monsters. In YGGDRASIL, they are the novice monsters that appear in the Novice Village, possessing very low attack, defense, and health. In this world, they live near rivers and in city sewers.
Goblins and slimes are both weak monsters easily handled by bronze-level adventurers. They are common, though this impression is valid only when the prefix "common" is added to these two monsters.
In YGGDRASIL, there are goblins who have mastered special professions. Among them is the Super Ancient Goblin King, a level 95 dungeon boss, and Dr. Goblin, a level 30 goblin who drives a giant mecha with the strength of a level 85 warrior.
The same is true for slimes. While ordinary slimes are weak, there are high-level slimes—giant, ancient, and fantasy slimes. These high-level slimes boast extremely high defense and resistance, often possessing acidic properties that corrode equipment, making them difficult to deal with in high-level dungeons.
Additionally, some players opt to summon high-level slimes as companions or even use them as game characters.
For some reason, goblins and slimes appear with high frequency in certain types of works, second only to orcs, the preferred enemies of female knights.
At this moment, before the adventurers stood a slime.
A level 32 monster summoned by three lesser succubi in a joint summon: the 'Large Black Slime'.
Though it lacked the magical attack power of a Rainbow Slime or the absolute physical resistance of a Diamond Slime, the "Black Slime" boasted unique and formidable traits.
The whip made of black mucus lashed Peter's body with such force that he was sent flying. As the flames died down, the massive black and purple figure of the slime emerged.
The slime was about two meters tall and over three meters wide—its enormous mass of mucus crawled toward the adventurers.
"What the hell is this?" The adventurer closest to it gasped, only to be whipped away by a tentacle made of black slime.
"What incredible power!" Peter exclaimed, standing and raising his shield. The inky whip lashed out again, striking the shield. This time, Peter held firm and only took two steps back.
For a warrior whose strength had reached the Orichalcum level, it was possible to block the attack, provided he was prepared. However, the other adventurers were not so lucky. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to withstand the force of the "giant black slime" and were knocked to the ground.
[Fireball]
Monica immediately cast her most powerful magic, aiming for the massive target.
The black slime burned, but the flames lasted less than three seconds before being completely extinguished. The slime seemed to ignore the attack.
With [Fire Resistance IV], it could withstand fire magic up to the seventh level. Not even a seventh-level [Scorching Sea of Fire] could harm it.
"Is this really a slime? Damn it!" A gold-level adventurer roared, charging forward with his spear.
A black tentacle swung from below, and the adventurer leaped into the air, narrowly avoiding the strike.
"Take that!" He thrust the spear into the slime's body. But it sank in, meeting only a soft resistance as if his attack had missed completely.
At the same time, liquid sprayed from the black slime, soaking the adventurer.
"W-what?" The adventurer suddenly froze, as though struck by an electric shock, unable to move.
The black tentacles wrapped around his waist and hurled him into a nearby wall.
