OVERLORD- CH-62. Prologue of the Night

She simply dismissed the incident as her daughter's childish play. In order to maintain her dignity as a mother, she gave her a symbolic scolding. But when she saw her daughter acting coquettishly, her stern demeanor melted, and she immediately forgave her.

This, perhaps, is the essence of motherhood.

Lying down on the bed, Aya intended to rest for a while.

Operan had also invited her to stay overnight. Unlike the Moon Shadow Squad, who were cautious and timid when it came to politics, Aya had originally intended to establish a solid relationship with the Duchess.

Of course, she was fully aware of the political risks involved, but those risks didn't concern her.

In fact, with Aya's influence as a backing, the Colswaite family would never lose its power. After gaining a rough understanding of the combat abilities in this world, Aya felt confident in her position.

If politics ever required her intervention, she considered the idea of having the Duchess serve as her agent, something that would necessitate a closer relationship.

Ultimately, Aya still hoped to form a friendship with her.

"Mom, aren't you going to change your clothes?" Lilith asked, interrupting Aya's thoughts.

"Change clothes? Lilith, do you prefer your mother's original appearance?" Aya teased, removing her equipment as she spoke. Changing her appearance was a simple thought. She turned around, disassembling her gear and returning to her original look.

Each time she took off her costume, the bounce of her chest was so striking.

"Yeah, I like it." Lilith replied, leaning down and snuggling into Aya's arms as Aya reached out to stroke her hair.

"Let's call Camilla over. She might get bored staying alone." Aya suggested.

The Duchess had assigned different rooms to Aya and Camilla, the reason being their differing genders. It was hard to refuse, especially since there were plenty of rooms in the house.

"No! Sister can stay with mom every day, and now I want mom all to myself!" Lilith said, her voice taking on a coquettish tone.

"Okay, okay. Until the 'stage' is set up, Mom will stay with you alone." Aya said, wrapping her arms around Lilith. At that moment, the nature of the Mother Goddess of Life took over, allowing her to feel pure joy and relish the love of her daughter.

"Yeah." Lilith replied, "Mom."

"What's wrong?" Aya asked, noticing a change in Lilith's tone.

"My plan... won't affect your rest, will it?" Lilith asked, hesitating. She had devised a plan based on information from the demon's soul. Although confident in its success, she worried that it might interfere with Aya's sleep.

"No, I think it's a very good plan. Thank you for your hard work. I'm really happy with it," Aya assured her.

"Mom, you're making me embarrassed. It's not a great plan... it's rather simple and crude," Lilith protested.

"No, you did a wonderful job," Aya responded warmly. She felt a sense of pride akin to receiving a homemade gift from a child. The simple gesture, rather than its perfection, was what mattered to her.

"Mom, for the sake of stage effect, can I summon something else?"

"Well, as long as you're happy, just be mindful of the lives of a few people."

Aya was referring to the Colswaite family and the Moon Shadow team. Lilith understood the concern.

"So comfortable." Lilith buried her head in Aya's soft embrace and thought to herself, 'I'll enjoy it myself this time, but next time I must make sure my mother feels comfortable too.'

As night fell, the city was shrouded in silence. The moonlight was dim tonight, and the stars were sparse, as dark clouds obscured much of the starlight.

"I should be able to see the Benny tomorrow." The girl sitting on the edge of the rooftop said, her feet dangling in the air. Her long, white legs swayed casually.

"Do you know her, Ariella?" The girl sitting next to her asked.

"She and I are both silver-level adventurers. Our teams have cooperated before, but I never knew she was a girl," Ariella replied.

"Really? I'm really looking forward to it. What will little sister Benny be like?"

"How about a bet before we meet her?" Another girl chimed in.

"Come on, come on, I guess C!"

"Then I guess D. Ariella, what about you?"

"I think it should be C."

"Eh? Am I the only one who guessed D? Fine, you two can just prepare to lose."

"I don't know who lost the bet yesterday and still hasn't paid their streaking debt." Ariella teased.

"How dare you bring that up? I lost because I bet you would be C!" The girl pounced on her with a mock scowl.

The three girls were playful and carefree, seemingly out for a casual outing. But a closer inspection revealed that they weren't quite human—though they appeared human, they had black horns, bat-like wings, and long tails with black hearts at their tips.

They were succubi, more specifically, hybrid succubi who had transformed from humans or lower-level succubi. Though remnants of their human blood remained, they were nearly entirely overtaken by the powerful succubus bloodline. Their bodies had evolved to include all the typical succubus traits.

Compared to their previous human forms, their waists had become thinner, their legs longer, their upper and lower bodies fuller, and their skin smoother, as if coated in essential oils.

"Stop it, seriously. Let's play when we get back," Ariella said breathlessly, attempting to push away the succubus girl who was playfully throwing herself at her.

For succubi, their playful nature was likely extreme by human standards. Both girls had flushed faces, their tails tangled together.

Just as they were laughing, a dark shadow passed across the sky, heading toward the inner city.

"Sisters, get up, it's time to work," Arila said quickly, standing and squinting at the city she had once known well as a human.

Back then, as a low-level adventurer, she had to scrape by with dangerous, menial jobs while enduring the bullying of high-level adventurers and the disdain of the nobility. Now, thanks to the powerful succubus bloodline, she could easily trample those who once looked down on her—and make them happily submit. This power, this beauty, were all gifts from the succubus bloodline, far stronger than any fragile human body.

She owed her transformation to Lady Lilith and longed for the next reward—evolution. She dreamed of becoming a true succubus, casting off the last traces of her human self.

Her mission was clear: she had to succeed, not just for herself, but for Lady Lilith.

At that moment, a purple-red light flickered in the girls' eyes. The pitch-black night, which was so dark for humans, posed no hindrance to their vision.

With smiles of anticipation, they began to chant the spells they had prepared.

Angelina went to bed early, as usual, but sleep eluded her. She stared blankly into the dark. Unable to endure the insomnia any longer, she rose and left her room.

In this world, electricity didn't exist, and magic lighting was rare and expensive. Common folk relied on candles and oil lamps. As a result, most people's schedules followed the natural rhythm of the day, waking with the sun and resting at night.
