GODZILLA- CH-14. River Crossing Operation

"Ah! Yes, yes, yes, we must inform the Mother Goddess. I almost forgot about such an important matter. This is a war between gods..."

The other mosquito man suddenly realized the significance, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

If their Mother Goddess could capture the blood of a god in this divine war, their tribe's status would surely rise greatly.

Just the thought made the two mosquito men shiver with anticipation.

The continent was vast. Even if the dinosaur people marched without rest, it would still take over ten days and nights to reach the snake people's territory.

The Mosquito People, however, could fly, and their tribe was located on a nearby island, reachable in much less time.

Without further delay, the two mosquito men took off, enveloped in a whirlwind, soaring through the skies at a rapid pace.

---

James was speechless.

According to his original plan, he intended to start interacting more with the dinosaurs, teaching them how to build houses and other skills after they'd had time to adapt to their new forms.

But before he could even begin, the dinosaur people impatiently gathered all their members.

Why would they gather the entire tribe?

In James's mind, it was obvious—they were planning revenge.

He just wasn't sure if the target was the snake people or the shark people.

They wanted to avenge their blood feud, and he couldn't find a reason to stop them.

But wasn't it a bit reckless to charge into a fight right after adapting to their new forms?

Bringing the entire tribe with them was risky; any mishap could spell disaster.

Despite his confidence in the dinosaur people's newfound strength, James couldn't help but tag along.

He could look at it as a bit of sightseeing.

And if things went south, he'd be there to lend a hand.

Now that he thought about it, wasn't he acting like a babysitter?

No, it wasn't babysitting; it was more like the role of a boss in a video game or an epic movie scene.

The warriors fill the battlefield, and he, walking behind them, looked like the commanding boss awaiting his final move.

Amused by the thought, James found the situation increasingly interesting.

Besides, it was refreshing to get out and stretch a bit. The fresh air was a nice change from his usual lethargy.

As they traveled, James was taken aback.

Wherever the dinosaur people and their kin passed, chaos ensued.

Sand and rocks flew everywhere, and many towering trees toppled.

And James? His own steps left the earth trembling.

Whenever he lifted a leg, the ground exploded, sending rocks and clouds of dirt flying.

This world was like an endless wilderness, with scattered colossal trees. Each tree towered over a hundred meters tall, creating a wild, untamed landscape.

But when these trees met the dinosaur people, they fell like dominos.

During the several days of traveling, James encountered all kinds of unusual creatures.

Some looked like giant mice, others like enormous crabs, and there were even massive insects burrowing underground.

He'd seen a few of these giant insects burst out of the ground after he stepped nearby.

Some had heads over thirty or forty meters long. When he stepped on one, his entire leg was smeared with goo.

This was truly a world of gigantic, extraordinary beasts.

Thank goodness these creatures were unintelligent and didn't form groups. If they did, life aboveground would be far grimmer.

The worms, plump and pale, were likely packed with protein.

But their grotesque appearance deterred James from even considering them as a meal.

Besides, he didn't have a particular need for food.

If he soaked in magma, he could go without eating forever.

Eating was more of a pastime for him now, rather than a necessity.

So, despite their long journey, James politely declined the food the dinosaur people offered him from their hunts along the way.

Better to let the little guys fill up; they'd need their strength for the battle ahead.

Good food and drink would keep them in high spirits, ready for the next day's fight.

James believed that the development of a civilization often came through conflict. This was their war, and he intended not to interfere too much.

Not to mention, the dinosaur people had undergone significant changes, and he doubted the snake or shark people could withstand their power.

Still, he tagged along as a precaution.

After all, what if similar beings were aiding the snake people?

If such powerful entities existed, and they tried to bully the dinosaur people, James wouldn't hesitate to "have a word" with them.

In truth, James was curious about the existence of other beings like himself in this world.

If such creatures existed, they likely possessed some level of intelligence, right?

And if they could communicate mentally, he wouldn't be so alone here.

Of course, this was only appealing if the other party had the means to communicate.

Otherwise, he'd be just as uninterested in them as any other beast.

In the end, it all came down to strength.

If he happened to like a creature, he might keep it as a pet; if not, well, he might just have barbecue for dinner.

---

The battle began at sunset on the twelfth day.

As night fell, the dinosaurs reached a large river.

This river, about three hundred meters wide, was an obstacle they needed to cross to reach the snake people's territory.

Because darkness was settling in, the dinosaurs planned to rest and resume their march at dawn.

But just as they were settling down, they spotted a large group of snake people on the opposite bank.

The noise of the dinosaurs' march had been loud enough to alert the snake people, and by now, they were deep in snake territory. The snake people would have been foolish not to notice.

Words weren't necessary once the two tribes spotted each other.

Although the snake people were taken aback by the dinosaurs' massive changes, retreat was no option, and they took up a defensive stance.

These snake people were clever, choosing this riverside as their battleground, aware that the river would hinder the dinosaurs' advance.

Under the guidance of the dinosaur elder, the dinosaurs preferred not to engage immediately, choosing instead to prepare and attack at dawn.

But the snake people had no intention of waiting.

Across the river, they taunted and insulted the dinosaur people, screaming and gesturing in ways they hoped would enrage their enemies.

While the dinosaurs couldn't understand the snake people's language, they caught the rude gestures well enough.

Adding insult to injury, some snake people even threw excrement across the river.

How could the dinosaur people stand for this?

Not to mention, their god was watching over them.

Even the dinosaur elder's patience wore thin.

With an angry roar, the dinosaurs retaliated, hurling stones and sending warriors into the river to confront the snake people head-on.

The dinosaur elder was no fool—he was well aware of the risks of crossing the river.

But he also knew the snake people were unaware of their tribe's newfound fire abilities.

This was a chance for a surprise attack.

In the darkening sky, the wind picked up.

Though night had fallen, James's vision was unaffected.

In the dark, everything appeared in shades of red, like an infrared scene, providing a clear view of the brewing battle.
