X-MEN- CH-76. Fertlity Pod

Sovereigns had figured out the enemy's habits. Based on speculation, the next attack would occur within the next two days. Martin and Ayesha discussed relevant matters, and he roughly gauged the strength of the creature he would be dealing with.

Judging by the creature's past performance, Martin felt no pressure at all, 'It will be no different from crushing a bug to death.' He thought to himself.

Ayesha put her hands on her stomach and said, "I'm sorry, I have something to deal with, so I can't accompany you right now. Pauline will arrange a place for you to stay. You can rest for now, and we'll meet again this evening."

"Okay, see you tonight," Martin replied, finding the arrangement satisfactory. He and Raven stood in the hall, watched by people on both sides, but it didn't feel strange at all.

"Follow me," Pauline said as she approached the two of them.

As expected, their accommodations were magnificent and aristocratic, with luxurious interior decoration that combined classical beauty with technological sophistication.

"If you need anything, you can contact me through the communicator," Pauline informed them.

"Got it."

After Pauline left, Martin and Raven were alone in the room. They looked at each other, both feeling a strange sensation they couldn't quite place.

"It's fine. This is probably their greatest passion," Martin said.

"Hahaha…" Raven chuckled softly.

It was okay to encounter some arrogance; it was better than dealing with people who were always suspicious. At least they didn't have to worry about the Sovereigns harboring any ill intentions.

The two looked around at the various high-tech features in the room, things they had never seen before. Then they went to the balcony to take in the scenery outside. The sun was about to set, and the golden buildings in the distance reflected a dazzling light.

Compared to the colorful landscapes on Earth, the scenery here was monotonous and a bit dull, yet it had its own majestic beauty.

Food and wine had been prepared on the balcony, and Martin and Raven sat there, chatting casually, feeling as comfortable as they would at home.

"At least the food isn't golden," Martin joked.

Later, Pauline came in person to escort them to another room. In the center was a dining table laden with food. Ayesha was already seated, and when she saw them enter, she said, "I've heard that in many places, it's customary to invite guests to dinner as a sign of friendship, so I'd like to invite you to dine with me."

The three of them sat down, with Pauline on one side and Martin and Raven on the other, while Ayesha occupied the main seat in the center.

"I thought you didn't need food, considering how advanced your energy technology is," Martin said.

"Although we have energy products that can provide the human body with all the energy it needs, there is still a need for food," Ayesha explained as she ate.

The food was diverse, with some dishes familiar to Martin and Raven and others that were entirely new to them.

Ayesha asked as she ate, "So, are you two husband and wife?"

Martin nodded. "Yes. Don't the Sovereigns have similar relationships?"

"No," Ayesha replied, pride evident in her voice. "Each of us is designed by our tribe. We control the DNA of our offspring, allowing them to develop and be born in fertility pods. Every individual's body and brain are perfect."

Martin disagreed internally but chose to respond politely.

"Every race has its own characteristics and traditions. I've heard of a powerful race similar to yours. They screen their offspring's genes and use something called the 'Code of Life' to bring them into existence."

"What is that race called?" Ayesha asked curiously. She had likely never heard of a race with customs like hers.

"Kryptonian, a powerful race."

"I've never heard of it."

"Perhaps it's just a story I picked up somewhere. It's said that their planet was destroyed due to their excessive exploitation of resources."

Ayesha nodded, confident that no race could compare to the Sovereigns. As for planetary crises, her ancestors had already accounted for that, ensuring their energy resources were renewable, avoiding any such danger.

"So, your race is born through traditional means between husband and wife?" Ayesha asked with curiosity.

"Well… it's not just between husband and wife, but yes, more traditional," Martin replied, glancing at Raven. They were still somewhat traditional, right?

"Perhaps you could tell me more about this method when you have time," Ayesha said, blinking her large eyes expectantly, glancing at Raven as well. "If you don't mind, I've heard that women in your kind of relationships often get jealous."

"No, where we come from, the strong always have privileges," Raven said firmly.

"That applies everywhere in the universe," Ayesha agreed.

After a while, Ayesha looked at Martin and asked, "I find it odd. Your genes are just ordinary biological genes, not from any advanced race recorded by the Sovereigns. Yet, I sense a tremendous power within you. That shouldn't be possible."

"Maybe I'm just special," Martin said with a shrug.

"That's really the only explanation," Ayesha agreed.

After dinner, Ayesha and Pauline accompanied Martin and Raven on a tour, during which they even saw the so-called "fertility pod."

Along the way, Ayesha and Pauline became much more relaxed, and the atmosphere between them all became friendlier. As they peered through the transparent shells of the pods, looking at the unformed embryos or fully developed babies inside, they discussed the concept of offspring.

Raven and Martin also shared some of their challenges.

Ayesha remarked, "The genetic differences between you two are vast. It would be difficult for your genes to merge. However, if you wish, I could assist you in creating one or more offspring using your genes."

"No!" Martin and Raven immediately refused.

Seeing Ayesha's puzzled expression, Martin quickly clarified, "Don't get me wrong, we just don't want our children to be so... different from the others in our race."

"But, according to your customs, don't all parents think their child is special?" Ayesha asked, still curious.
