X-MEN- CH-65. Men Understand Men
Added 2024-10-15 02:59:12 +0000 UTCThere are no tall shops like those on a busy street, but there is the bustling and crowded atmosphere of a market. The shops on both sides sold items the two of them didn't recognize; of course, there were clothes, food, and weapons, but many seemed to be spare parts, spacecraft supplies, and other oddities. The most common were recycling shops, the kind that recycled everything. Martin couldn't understand what many people said, but some spoke the so-called universal language.
After shopping for a long time, the two of them didn't find anything good. Maybe they just didn't know what was valuable. They finished their shopping, bought some non-Earth specialties, and passed by a store that looked more popular.
Martin said that because there were many customers there, all men, gathered in groups of two or three. The shop sign was a neon sign of a voluptuous female silhouette. Through the door, they could see some people walking in while taking off their clothes, and others walking out while putting on their clothes.
There were a lot of women in the hall outside, dressed in... hard to describe outfits, and even robots, probably some kind of mechanical augmentation. Most of them had yellow skin, a yellow that resembled feces.
"Don't even think about it..." Raven frowned and pulled Martin away.
"Ah? What was I thinking?" Martin asked in confusion.
Raven gestured at the store.
Martin stared at Raven with wide eyes, "Dear... I have never done such a thing. You really wronged me this time."
"Really?" Thinking of Martin's fickleness, Raven was a little unconvinced.
"I've never looked for this kind of thing, even before you were around. After I got to know you and others, I've never gone out to pick up girls."
"You still want to pick up girls?"
Martin was a little confused when he heard this, "Uh... honey, did you hear the point?"
"Are you impatient?"
"Suck..." Martin took a deep breath and pulled Raven away. Unexpectedly, Martin encountered something he had never faced in his previous life. Oh, he only had a girlfriend for a short time in his past life and had been single since they broke up. Then he decided it wasn't worth it and focused on making money.
"You're just impatient."
"I don't..."
While they were looking for a place to eat, they came across Yondu watching something on a screen on the street.
Martin took Raven's hand and walked forward, asking, "What are you doing?"
After hearing this, Yondu turned around and saw that it was Martin. He smiled and said, "Let me see if there are any bounties. Are you done shopping?"
"Well, do they accept rewards here?"
Yondu explained, "Yes, there are places like this on every planet... except Earth. There is no planet that is not as civilized as the interstellar civilization. No one knows what organization it is, and no one knows when it started. As long as there is any need, you can find such a machine or some middleman stores to publish and receive."
"How's your reputation?"
"Very good. I haven't encountered any breaches of contract. I heard that a big team had breached a contract before, but then they disappeared. I haven't heard of such a thing since then."
Yondu said this while operating the screen. "Anyway, the middleman's fee is paid by the employer. It has nothing to do with us, the employed party, and it will not affect the remuneration... Damn it, I can never find a good assignment."
Raven asked, "What is a good mission?"
"Haha... Of course, it's the one with easy tasks and high pay."
Martin nodded in agreement.
Yondu paused on a task and said, "This is the simplest one among them. There are no complicated steps."
Martin looked over and saw that the content was about helping the Sovereign protect their energy batteries. A race with golden bodies appeared in his mind.
"Why not take it?" Martin asked as he watched Yondu cross out the task.
"We are plunderers. Stealing things is fine, but protecting things is not. Also, the Sovereigns are too arrogant. No one wants to deal with them. You never know what will offend them, and their technology is very advanced."
Martin thought of a certain mission of a certain team and asked, "Do the Sovereigns often issue such missions?"
"Yes, that planet is rich in that kind of energy, so their technology is developing very fast. They can stop invaders from this universe, but they can't stop creatures from another dimension. Every once in a while, they have to hire people to help them eliminate thieves from that dimension. Haha... They are even too arrogant to do it themselves."
Yondu explained this to Martin while checking it, and finally turned it off helplessly, "Sometimes it's like this; getting a job depends on luck."
"That's normal." Martin nodded in agreement. He also had to wait when he did things before. But he didn't care about the difficulty; he only cared about how much he was paid.
"I want to eat something. Do you want to join me?"
"Okay, you go." Yondu nodded helplessly, "Of course, even if you pay, it's my money."
"Haha, don't worry, I will pay you back. I always keep my word."
The food was an animal from an unknown planet. It looked like a chicken from Earth, except that it had four legs and was one or two times bigger than a chicken. It was a mammal.
"Very good." Martin tore off the last leg and handed it to Raven while eating.
Three people, four chicken legs—one for each person and one extra for Raven. This distribution seemed the most reasonable to Martin.
After dinner, Yondu said, "I'm going to do some personal work. You guys can have fun by yourselves."
"Can't we go together?" There was nothing to do and nothing to see anyway.
"Uh..." Yondu glanced at Raven.
"I understand. Go ahead." Martin nodded with a smile.
Men understand how men think.
Yondu smiled slightly, stood up, and left.
Raven also understood but didn't say anything; she just lowered her head to eat. For her, as long as Martin didn't leave, it was fine.
After dinner, Martin took Raven to the panel where they had just accepted the task.
"You want to find something to do?" Raven asked.
"Yeah, we need the money. And we have to pay back Yondu's money."
Raven nodded in agreement.
"The system has not been entered. Please register your personal or team information."
Martin stood in front of the machine panel, and the screen prompted him. Following the prompts, Martin clicked on the registration page, which had individual and team options.
It was relatively simple for individuals; you only needed a name, either real or a nickname. Then you provide a personal account. If you don't have an account, they can provide one. Their currency is universal and can be transferred and used at will.
The team registration was a little larger. It required the team name, an optional team logo, team members, and an account. There was no limit to the number of team members, and the information was the same as the previous individual registration, with only a title required.
