MCU- CH-159. Thanos attacks Asgard
Added 2024-10-11 03:30:27 +0000 UTCA grand curtain was about to rise, yet no one noticed the turbulent undercurrent hidden beneath it. On a remote planet, Gorr, holding the Necrosword, gazed at the god in golden armor lying lifeless before him, his expression cold and devoid of emotion.
"Number 3742. There are too many gods in this universe. So many that they no longer need to exist." Gorr muttered, his voice empty of feeling, "Everything would be better without gods."
Gorr silently tallied the number of gods he had slaughtered. The blood of the slain deities couldn't cleanse the deep-seated hatred he harbored toward them. As the saying goes, when faith collapses, everything becomes extreme.
It had been nearly twenty years since he obtained the Necrosword. During that time, he had used its power to slaughter the indigenous gods of one planet after another. And each time a god fell, the Black Death Sword absorbed their divine essence.
As its wielder, Gorr received a portion of that power, which transformed him from a mere mortal into someone capable of easily defeating gods.
"You've grown stronger too, haven't you?" Gorr murmured to the Necrosword, sensing its increased power as it fed him even more strength.
He raised the sword, its black, light-absorbing blade devoid of any luster, as though it swallowed all the light that touched it. The blade trembled slightly, as if responding to Gorr's question.
Recently, Gorr had noticed a closer connection with the sword, as though it had truly become a part of him. This change had occurred when Jean erased the consciousness of the God of Symbiotes, Knull.
The Necrosword had been forged by Knull. Though now wielded by Gorr, its true owner had always been Knull. But with Knull's consciousness gone, the connection between them was severed, and the sword became free.
Gorr's ongoing slaughter of gods pleased the sword, which had now fully accepted him as its new master.
"I heard there's a guy called Thanos in the universe who's become an immortal god. I bet his blood will satisfy you." Gorr said with a dark grin, "And Asgard—there are so many gods there. Killing them all will bolster my shadow army once again."
His gaze shifted toward the distant stars, and he stepped into the shadow world, dragging his sword behind him.
The shadow world was a dimension outside of reality, eternally cloaked in darkness. It served as a shortcut for Gorr to travel quickly across vast distances, connecting to many places in the real world. But the shadow world wasn't just a transit point—it was home to countless monsters lurking in the darkness. These creatures, transformed from the enemies slain by the Necrosword, could be summoned by its master.
Since ancient times, countless beings had perished under the blade of this sword, making the horde of shadow monsters nearly endless. This was why Gorr had been able to defeat gods so soon after obtaining the sword.
In the deepest parts of the shadows, Gorr could feel the presence of even more terrifying creatures, but he hadn't yet summoned them.
Meanwhile, in the dark quadrant, Thanos sat on his throne, basking in his immense power. A flash of silver light signaled the return of Ebony Maw, who knelt respectfully before him, presenting the Mind Scepter.
"My Lord, I have retrieved the Mind Scepter for you. Only you are worthy of its power." Ebony Maw declared, holding the scepter reverently in both hands.
Thanos stood and took the scepter, crushing the outer casing with ease to reveal the bright yellow Mind Stone within. Holding the stone, he felt its immense energy, but his expression remained cold.
"The power of a single Infinity Stone means little to me now." Thanos muttered, "The energy stored in the God Quarry over billions of years... if we could devour it all…"
He trailed off, lost in thought. The power he had gained from the God Quarry was already incredible, allowing him to stand above the multiverse. But if he could tap into the full reservoir of energy hidden within it, his strength would become unimaginable.
Ambition flared within him, uncontrolled and insatiable.
"My master." Ebony Maw interrupted, "It is said that after Asgard defeated the Dark Elves millennia ago, they sealed the Reality Stone in a hidden dimension within the Nine Realms. Now that Odin is dead, the new king of Asgard is weak. We can easily retrieve the Reality Stone from them."
Ebony Maw's disdain for Asgard's current rulers was evident. To him, Thor and Loki were mere fools. Asgard's might had always rested on the shoulders of powerful gods like Odin, Bor, and their ancestors.
But Thor and Loki? They were nothing.
"Asgard… those self-proclaimed gods are an eyesore." Thanos growled, pocketing the Mind Stone. With Odin dead, Asgard was vulnerable. Even if Odin had still lived, Thanos knew he could crush him now.
"We move now." Thanos ordered, tearing open a rift in space. Without hesitation, he stepped through, Ebony Maw following close behind.
In Asgard, Heimdall stood on watch as usual, patrolling the Nine Realms. Suddenly, a vision filled his mind—an image so horrifying it made his blood run cold. Pain shot through his head as he collapsed, black tears of blood streaming from his eyes.
Before losing his sight completely, he saw a towering, purple figure.
With no time to waste, Heimdall drew his sword and sent the most urgent warning to Asgard.
The peaceful atmosphere of Asgard was shattered by a beam of light that shot up into the sky! Thor and Loki simultaneously looked up and immediately sensed something was wrong.
"It's Heimdall. There must be an emergency on the Bifrost!" Thor exclaimed.
Without hesitation, he summoned the Stormbreaker, transforming into a bolt of lightning as he raced toward the Rainbow Bridge. Loki, quick to react, followed closely behind.
However, at that moment, a dark space portal appeared above Asgard. Two figures emerged from it, instantly releasing a domineering and terrifying aura that filled the entire realm.
With his hands behind his back, Thanos gazed at the golden palace, glowing in the sunlight. He casually extended a hand and pressed down lightly. An invisible force tore through the air, obliterating the golden palace that had stood for millennia. The inhabitants within were crushed under the rubble, unable to escape.
"Thanos!" Thor roared, charging at Thanos with Stormbreaker crackling with lightning.
"Boom!" The sky erupted with thunder, unleashing a violent torrent of energy that engulfed Thanos completely.
But Thor's furious attack did nothing. Thanos emerged unscathed, the Stormbreaker halted effortlessly by a single outstretched finger. With a casual flick, Thanos sent a massive shockwave through the axe, knocking Thor back like a meteor, smashing him into a distant mountain. The ground around Thor cracked, spreading fissures across the landscape.
Thor's wide eyes reflected disbelief as he stared at Thanos. The ease with which he had stopped the Stormbreaker left him shaken. What pained Thor more was the sight of a crack along the blade of his axe—an artifact gifted by his father, now damaged before he had the chance to prove himself across the universe.
Though Thor had heard of Thanos, he had never imagined he possessed such overwhelming power.
As Thanos prepared to question Thor about the location of the Reality Stone, a blur of motion caught his eye. Loki, wielding Odin's Eternal Spear, had surrounded Thanos with countless illusions. Energy beams rained down on Thanos and Ebony Maw, but neither seemed fazed.
Ebony Maw raised his hand, creating a silver-white shield that deflected every attack. Thanos, focused, pinpointed the real Loki among the phantoms. With a flick of his fingers, a beam of energy shot toward Loki's head.
Loki tried to dodge, but an overwhelming force locked him in place, rendering his illusions useless. He could only watch as the beam approached, bracing himself for death.
"Loki!" Thor screamed, bloodshot eyes wide with fury as he watched helplessly.
Loki gave a bitter laugh, resigned to his fate. But just as the energy beam was about to strike, a portal opened in front of Loki. Out stepped Luke, who casually deflected the beam with a wave of his hand.
"Hey, isn't this Princess Loki?" Luke smirked, "Why do you always look so pathetic whenever I see you?"
Loki, shocked to be alive, opened his eyes at the familiar voice. Seeing Luke standing before him, a complicated expression crossed his face. Though Loki had never liked Luke, always feeling exposed under Luke's piercing gaze, the man had just saved his life.
Meanwhile, Thor, now free from the mountain's debris, shouted excitedly, "Luke! You arrived just in time!"
With a flash of lightning, Thor appeared at Luke's side.
"It's you!" Thanos growled, his eyes lighting up with excitement. He hadn't expected Luke to walk into his grasp so easily.
"Tsk tsk tsk." Luke tutted, completely unfazed, "You're lucky. It seems having the Goddess of Death on your side has its perks."
Thanos' expression darkened immediately. Luke's words had struck a nerve, reminding him of the mysterious woman who had appeared during his trial in the God's Quarry.
"What do you know? Tell me!" Thanos demanded, his focus shifting entirely.
Luke's face remained calm, but his eyes danced with amusement, "I know a lot of things. You'll have to be more specific."
"The Goddess of Death. What is she?" Thanos asked, his thirst for revenge momentarily forgotten in the face of his burning curiosity.
