2025-09-23 17:39:38 +0000 UTCI knew an American Vietnam veteran who still couldn't stand Vietnamese people decades later, and others who married Vietnamese and/or moved to Vietnam. Back in 1976 a young Vietnamese man moved into my apartment building who had been an ARVAN solder, who fled Vietnam to avoid reeducation camp or execution. Remember, the two sides were both Vietnamese, and one was an ally and one was enemy. For the USA, it was really a proxy war against the Soviet Union. If other communist countries hadn't gotten involved, I doubt that the US would have bothered getting involved in what was essentially a civil war.

A movie called Apt Pupil, starring Sir Ian McKellan (Magneto, Gandalf), about a teenage boy who discovers one of his elderly neighbors is a nazi in hiding.
