The day Oscar and Constance get married, Robbie is convincing himself it won’t be a bad day. After all Oscar and Constance have been together for a year, Robbie knows that Oscar is marrying her to gain his own place in society, even tho Oscar cares about her she’s no more than a friend to him. Robbie knows it and keeps telling himself he won’t suffer that day. It’s okay. Oscar is getting married, Oscar is just taking his place in the world. He cannot marry a man, so that’s why he’s not marrying Robbie but a woman. So Robbie goes to the wedding, and everything seems to be like he has imagined. Until, after the ceremon, while they’re all outside, Robbie sees Oscar kissing Constance on the mouth. They already kissed in church, of course, but that was almost mandatory. It was a little pain in the chest, nothing more. But now Oscar is spontaneously kissing her for the second time. First on the cheek, second on the mouth. The wine Robbie has in his body - an attempt to be a little drunk, maybe - seems to be suddenly on fire. He kissed her. He loves her. He’s physically attracted to her. Robbie doesn’t see well, now. Or maybe he does because he’s seeing the truth. What is he doing there? Why did he decide to go? He should have stayed at home, like Alfred did. He is ridiculous. He’s not thinking while his glass breaks into thousands pieces on the ground and his mouth shouts “I WAS IN LOVE WITH YOU”. He didn’t actually mean to do that. But he just did, and suddenly the crowd is silent. Oscar is directly looking at him. His eyes are cold. Disappointment? Anger? What is that? Robbie cannot tell. He just feels so wrong to be there. He just shouted to a married man that he, Robert Ross, was in love with him. Constance is embarrassed and is looking at Oscar. Traitor, Robbie thinks. She knew about his feelings for Oscar. She knows everything and she is marrying him. Her eyes are sad and her head seems to shake a little bit like a silent “no” towards Robbie. Then, the laugh. An evil, mocking laugh. Robbie and Constance’s eyes are on Oscar, just like the eyes all around them. “Constance, my beloved wife! You never told me you had a boyfriend!”. Constance is confused just like Robbie, at first. Then they both understand. Oscar jokingly hit Robbie on the shoulder. “I should have imagined my friend Robbie had a crush on Constance! Sorry, friend - she’s mine, now! Nothing personal, of course…”. Someone starts talking again, someone else laugh, others chat, the tension is less heavy. Robbie’s head hurts. Constance avoids his gaze. Oscar gets near to him. “Robbie. Don’t you dare to do something like that ever again in public”, he whispers. Then a pat on the back. “Can I offer you a drink?”.
