The best lawyer in London told Oscar later that he should have just torn up the note and ignored it. Instead he sued, lost the case, and was then arrested for homosexual acts, which were illegal then. So if Bosie urged Oscar to sue (because he hated his father), Bosie led him straight to prison, social and financial ruin, the loss of his family, and an early death in self-imposed exile. What did Bosie suffer? Nothing.
