New Build is Out!

Known Issues

Bunny is oscillating between making new levels for the next build and fixing bugs. The most critical bugs that remain have to do with input resetting or not working. We’re using a third-party library for GameMaker to handle input and I think it is just time to roll up the sleeves and upgrade it to the most recent version.

Unfortunately it is not a trivial upgrade. The API has changed quite a bit and changes across the board are necessary, so a fix will take a while. We apologize for everyone who’s affected, but we need to take the time to do this properly!

As for the non-critical bugs, we’re chipping away at them, but for now we are prioritizing new content. If we release a hotfix, it will be a couple more days.

New Animations in the works!

I’m back to working on several new animations, big and small!

In order for me to maintain sanity and not get bogged down in one big animation, we decided to break up our animation process similarly to how we’re handling levels now:

Instead of shipping a build when the whole animation is complete, I will focus on the core loop+climax first and flesh out other variations, transitions and intros as I go along.

This allows me to hop between projects more and avoid getting burned out by working on just one huge thing day in and day out.

And as another positive side effect, it will allow us to come up with ideas for how we want the whole thing to play out once it is finished.

Previously we’d spend a meeting or two brainstorming the whole thing and sketching out the keyframes and transitions for it.

Now I will just work on the main thing while more ideas can marinade and simmer in the brain juice stew and we can just pick the best ideas once we feel like we’re ready.

New Species & Character Designs

With most of the major species for “Planet 2” blocked out now, I started working on designs for the third and final planet!

As you can see I am mostly just winging it for now, but I am already super egg-cited to put ‘em into the game and have ‘em ruffle Kinny’s feathers! ^w~

Planet 2 Environment Art Update

Last time I showed some of the concepts I blocked out for Planet 2 biomes. Fabian has taken them and started fleshing them out into beautiful pixel art:

I can’t wait to import them into GameMaker and start mocking up some mushroomy test areas!

Bunny is looking into shaders more to make some of the mushroom parts glow.

Level Design Update

Sometimes it's way more productive and fun to get away from the computer and spread out on the floor with some pencil and paper!

Bunny is drafting up maps and room layouts for two new areas:

The area that is going to expand the map to the right leading up to the new temple, and an area that is water-focused expanding the map to the left, leading to what is going to be the place of final showdown with Kaha, the main antagonist of the first “arc”.

Both are smaller in scope and serve more as "connective tissue" between larger biomes.

As with the cisterns, we’re going to focus first on layout and getting out a rough version first, before dressing it up with decorations.

The other areas are going to be updated and tweaked along the way:

The cisterns aren’t completed and we don’t like how confusing the pipe system ended up being. So expect some changes there!

We’re also going to do another pass over the start area, maybe shrinking it down and streamlining it just a bit and making the gameplay a bit more tight.

In the background we’re also playing with level elements for planet 2 and 3 - new mechanics and minor enemies. These won’t make it into the new builds yet, but we might take what we like and put it into another “Glitchcaid” installment to get some early feedback... we’ll see!
