Re:Zero Season 2 OPs & EDs Full Reaction

Re:Zero Season 2 OPs & EDs Full Reaction

I think OP 1 and OP 2 together capture the culmination of the Re:Zero experience. Op 1 is the darkness, the brutality and the mental decline of Subaru as he struggles to overcome the hardships. Op 2 is the uplifting hope, the earned happiness of success after so much struggle. My interpretation of OP 1 is that it tells a story of Subaru's declining mental state and his toxic relationship with Return by Death in the first half of the season. "If its to save you, I don't care how many times I die." That truly sums up Subaru's mentality in the first half of the season and its a bad state to be in, which is fascinating for this story. Usually in stories as you guys mentioned, the act of self sacrifice is seen as noble and heroic. Re:Zero flips that expectation and shows it via Subaru as a self destructive tendency born from lack of self worth. Subaru had to learn to Love Himself and find value in his life this arc. All of which was told to him by Satella of all people. That's why I disagree with y'all interpretation of Subaru running at the end of this OP. I see it as Satella embracing him saying I love you, which pushes Subaru to RUN AWAY straight into his deaths. From that perspective, we can view it as Subaru running away from the very idea of being Loved. A big part of Subaru's character is his low self worth. I think Satella telling him he is loved terrifies him because he views himself as a loser. Which plays a part in why he is willing to sacrifice himself so easily. A part of it is definitely his big heart.. but the desire to save others at the expense of himself, altho mostly admirable.. is sad to think about. He hates himself and downplays his efforts so much. His willingness to go so far is because he thinks he hasn't done enough or tried hard enough. Hell, he even said so to "Rem" comforting him after the second Trial, where he says "maybe I'm tired, but I haven't done anything." Like bro.. you've just gone through 3-4 death loops trying your HARDEST to save people. That's not "doing nothing." These feelings tie back to his spiral of depression from his old life, feeling worthless in the shadow of his father because he could not live up to the expectations he placed on himself. Your comments about Emilia's journey can just as easily fit Subaru's character too. He too started this story with a false sense of confidence and bravado as the isekai protagonist.. which was very quickly broken down time and time again by the hardships he faced. Sorry for the essay 😂 I'm just passionate about this anime.

In some cultures butterflies represent the rebirth of the soul, now that you've seen the true ending of the season this makes it really poetic

I agree with watching OP's & ED's only after finishing the season, I'm a huge fan when reactors go 100% blind into shows. Also, I don't know to what extent this is true so read with a grain o salt, but I've read that Re:Zero cut intros and ending in most episodes because the story is so big that they wouldn't have time to cover it all with everything included. BEYOND that, I've also read that the show, while it was airing in Japan, bought commercial slots to air the break times and have shorter breaks.

Looking forward to that then!!!

I'm completely cool with you guys skipping the endings. I enjoy watching the openings every time, especially if the opening has changes depending of what happens, but I understand that some of them have a lot of spoilers. So if this is your reaction style, then it's completely okay, there are lots of other reactors that watch the openings. In the second opening, I especially love the two seconds of Ram vs Roswaal. It's really short, it's really difficult to understand what's happening (it didn't spoil me anything at all), but every frame is wonderful. The second ending barely appeared lol. Most of the time, they only put the song itself, if anything.

Considering what Graham told us he likes in Openings, he will probably be a big Fan of Season 3s OPs and EDs
