Hmm it didn't stand out... 🤔

Re:Zero is such a rich show with fantastic writing while jumping off and subverting the base tropes and cliches of the genre. But not in a superficial way, but in such a nuanced way full of meaning to the core story. Subaru's journey is an intimate one, and the author is not afraid to go to some uncomfortable places. As George said, the show has done a good job subverting what we know about certain tropes. Subaru's Return by Death and ability to go back and change fate for example. I'm sure such concept is not unique to Re:Zero. But its Re:Zero's execution of the trope that makes it stand out. The way it called us out and made us realise "yeeah Return by Death is cool and all, but its not to be abused." The concept of Valuing your Life is so simple but it recontextualises our perception of the show and how we could proceed moving forward. Just like Subaru, we've distanced ourselves to the idea of valuing his life and treating his worth as something to protect. Just because Subaru can come back to life doesn't mean he should just die for the sake of it. Usually in media, the act of sacrifice is treated as a good noble thing. I'm sure it is. But in some cases it can be seen as a self destructive thing. Its not that often a story forces us to take a step back and think about valuing our life and loving ourselves before we think of sacrificing ourselves. The act of sacrifice for the sake of someone else is an attractive idea, but we must not undermine the worth of the self. Surely there could be other ways to help others. Do you realise the pain you're potentially causing the people who care and love you by unnecessarily sacrificing yourself? I don't think the show is saying Subaru is gonna stop dying. But its how Subaru treats his life moving forward that is gonna be important. Subaru is most likely gonna stop treating his life as a tool. He's not gonna treat each life as a stepping stone for the inevitability that he is gonna die again. Instead he's gonna fight for the future he desires, treating his life as a one and done deal. If he dies, its just how it is. But he's not gonna treat each life as a temporary existence or as an experimental preperation for the next time. There's so much to think about with Re:Zero.

you may have missed something, but if you look closely in re zero season 2 break time episode 12, when frederica thinks about ram from her memories, and next to Ram is a blinking figure of Rem, because she disappeared. I thought maybe you would find it interesting to talk about.

But if we skipped the Petit ones we would have never seen Puck carrying that omelette, that was actually peak content! As for the cut content, we're planning to do a live stream on youtube after we finish season 2! Nik in the community has made a list for us to reach through that goes through S1+2 cut content for us to read through!

Little side note since I just finnished the video: The breaktimes in season 1 are mostly just goofing around with some minor lore like the color of the lamps (you can actually watch them adjust color in the anime, its really cool). Season 2s breaktime sprinkle in alot more lore and teasers for side stories like the elsa and Ricardo one, or teasing Otto stuff. Where it gets jucy though is season 3s breaktimes. Those are nearly all important in some way wether it be characterisation, story behind the scenes or cut content.

You could've have skipped Petit, it's non canon. One of the breaktime episodes reminded me that Subaru's black hair is quite rare in this world, it's a distinctive feature. More importantly, what have you decided to do with cut content? My hands are itching to type stuff after seeing how confusing the teaparty part was.

28:00 Yes, Graham pretty much nailed it here. That is, at least from my understanding, what it is all about. Subaru saw himself as unimportant because as you said, he cant die. But that led to him disengaging more and more from his own desires and his relationship. Roswaal even pointed out in episode 11 or 12 that Subaru is angry and all but he doesnt grief because he believes that these worlds arent set in stone. That everything is just a simulation till he finds a way through. Also its a nice callbacks to Subarus Moms words in episode 4: "It isnt the beginning or middle that truly matters but the end" (or something along these lines. Subaru took it a bit wrong, as his mom even pointed out.

> Subaru earned his influence on others. There is a focus on the female characters but Wilhelm, Otto, Julius and others are also very much admiring and respectful towards Subaru, and want to help him. Hell after the whale subjugation, if anything happened to Crush I think Wilhelm would either retire or join Emilia's camp to help Subaru. So I agree, its not harem. Dude is obliterating witch beast and has one archbishop kill under his belt. On the POV of everyone else in the country he is getting so much shit done in under a year, it is just that amazing

Looking forward to you guys thoughts whenever we learn more about Emilia's past

I feel like Minerva's makes sense, but we're missing a lot of context. Like Satella loved Subaru for a "long long time", so there is definitely time, or memory shenanigans going on. That would also explain how Subaru came to be soo in love with Emilia, despite not knowing enough about her in S1. He loves her but doesn't know why

Jefferson

Till this day Minerva’s gaslighting of Subaru is absolutely ridiculous. If I was him I’d be like I’m grateful that you’ve healed me but you are absolutely twisted. Ungrateful? Ungrateful for a situation he never asked to be a part of. Not only that, he’s received no explanation or guidance hardly at all for why he’s been brought here or what he’s supposed to be doing. Just randomly got brought over to this world out of the blue one day without any warning or explanation. Maybe once the story is all said and done we learn that somehow Subaru is originally from this world and he made some galaxy brain deal with Satella or the other witches that orchestrated all this for a certain purpose, but as of rn her words to him in that moment are some of the most outrageous things I’ve ever heard😭

Correcting some of what you're misremembering. No one said the Witch of Envy was killed. It's said she was sealed 400 years ago and that her flesh never dies, so we know that she's still alive right now. And in the tea party, they're obviously talking about Subaru's mental state and how little he values his own self worth. It's not about Return by Death in itself, but dying again and again is what did that to him in the first place. He even says "Is RbD only one of the options to me?" whereas he was treating it as the only option before. It's really the same as not taking care of your health. It doesn't mean all is good as long as I'm not offing myself. Roswaal is not an apostle, it's just Garfiel and Subaru, that we know of. And being an apostle allows you to control the Ryuzu clones. That's pretty much all we know about it. As for people liking Subaru, aside from the witches, the reasons are pretty clear for each. Calling it a harem when literally only a single girl likes him that way is reductive (I'm talking about Rem, and Petra is a child who sees him as the sole village hero of the Ulgarm incident because Rem was eaten). You seem to assume it's romantic when it's not. Subaru earned his influence on others. Also, you're supposed to be confused for the most part, you just need to accept the ambiguity and that the show won't give you answers readily or even decide for you (like the part about what is the right answer regarding Subaru). You'll get answers sooner or later.
