2025-04-24 13:40:21 +0000 UTCHaving read a bunch of comments I decided to go and proofcheck my Betty info and it seems that it was only in the Web Novel, not the Light Novel (which the anime adapts), so her remembering Rem is not technically canon I guess. My bad, it's been nearly 10 years since I've read them, so in my memory I could mix stuff up, especially when they're nearly identical. George was correct about the Witch of Envy: she can absorb memories of those that are engulfed in her shadow, that's why she decided to go after Petra and Rem. Obviously she manifested because Subaru spoke the taboo out loud and his heart couldn't get crushed in the 'spirit' realm. It's also implied that Emilia got possessed, as that was the closest body to Subaru at the moment. It seems you guys forgot my previous explanation about Petelgeuse, that he was a spirit possessing people, it's somewhat different than implanting a soul in a different body, can't say how much different, as that's spoiler territory. To reiterate about the gospels again with anime info: Roswaal said that there is the Tome of Wisdom, then that there are 2 copies that are really close to it (also are called the gospels), and the archbishop gospels that are inferior versions of the 2 copies. In the anime we saw that Subaru was able to see the text in Petelgeuse's gospel, but couldn't read it - that's because he wasn't the owner and this rule is true for all gospels. Since the gospel guides the owner to their desired future (their goal), it stands to reason that the text would change if the owner's desire would change. So it's not like someone writes instructions in them, instead think of them as a very sophisticated prediction algorithm, which takes into account all of the world's history to do that. Once again, the archbishop versions are defective and their predictions suck. The 2 copies of the Tome of Wisdom, however, as stated by Roswaal, show the TRUE future. It's still a prediction though, although almost top level accurate. We can only guess how accurate the Tome of Wisdom itself is and whether it's absolute or not. Ryuzu is a half-elf, she is in the Sanctuary after all, where halfbreeds are stuck. There is a reason why Garfiel didn't mention Subaru's miasma stench, it will be explained in a future episode, but it's super vague and doesn't really tell you directly, so I'll comment about it when the anime reaches this point.
