Oh hell yeea definitely. Especially after such extreme suffering that Re:Zero is putting us through. The payoff BETTER be worth it 😂

And it makes it all the most satisfying when the obstacles are overcome. A good story needs to have resistance, real resistance.

Yeeah it helps build strong stakes when the world is treated seriously as its own living entity, not something that bends to the will of the main character to make the plot move forward. This is a world with centuries of lore, history and culture. So Subaru coming here demanding help with nothing of value to offer them just logically isn't gonna work. Subaru has to change or nothing will move forward. If he doesn't change and adapt to the world he's in, the agonising suffering will just continue.

Absolutely. I really enjoy when main characters don't get the special main character treatment. I want to see someone's real journey, not someone that gets handed everything because plot. -Graham

I love how at this point we're no longer angry at Subaru, we're just pitying him. But I think Graham is right.. I still think Subaru hasn't learnt his lesson. Despite such traumatic suffering over and over and witnessing the ones he loves die, he's still making the same mistakes. Subaru is still trying to do it all alone. He hasn't once owned up to his faults or even apologized to Emilia. He still stubbornly thinks he isn't in the wrong. Sure, the threat of the Witch Cult is very near.. but I think he's still functioning under the belief that he can save the day and finally prove his worth to everyone. He's trying to ask for help, but he ruined any chance of anyone helping him with his disgrace at the Royal Selection. On top of that, every candidate came at him with the same answer: he isn't giving them anything of benefit to them, just demanding their assistance with a "just trust me bro." Hence the episode title: The Greed of a Pig. He's demanding for something without giving anything in return. GREED. Imagine it from their perspective. This is a political war. A nobody from your enemy camp (who just a day ago made a fool of themselves) comes to you begging for help to take down some infamous dangerous cult organization. He comes to you with vague non-useful information with NOTHING of offer to you. You don't know if this is merely a trap from the enemy camp, you don't know if any potential loss from engaging with such a dangerous organization is worth it with no benefits being offered. It ALL seems very suspicious. I love how in Re:Zero the typical speech to convince potential allies to help like "people's lives are at stake, you're just gonna let innocent people die? You'd be a hero if you helped us," means nothing here. In a real world setting, its the sad truth that nobody is gonna help unless there is something to benefit. Especially if you don't even know what the cost and benefits are. I love the different types of reactions from the candidates, each give characterization of the kind of character they are. Crusch (green hair) just states the cold logical facts why she is declining. Priscilla (busty woman in red) just laughs at you and angrily kicks you out for disgracing yourself and your party. Cos if you were willing to stoop so low to another party for your own benefit, it communicates you have no pride and loyalty.. so why bother taking you seriously? Then there's Anastasia, who just straight up robbed him blind of useful information for herself and left. Subaru catching multiple L's in this set of episodes, its painful. Here's to hoping for a better set next week, hopefully (?) 😬
