The ancient Egyptians used wine and vinegar to disinfect tools and surfaces. But disinfection in the form that Maomao describes, with alcohol for example, did not really take off until the 19th century. Anyway, this is a work of fiction. Great start, and since I liked book 3 and 4 even more than the first 2 books, I expect season 2 to be awesome.
