The reason why Yeon is so much stronger than everyone else is because she is from the 10 great families. Similar to how Khun and Laure were much superior to their fellow test takes - not counting the Princesses of Jahad (again season 1 kinda flopped on this, but in S1 it was well established that Aanak could most likely win 1vAll on the floor of tests and Endorsi was even a little bit stronger than her) The 10 families live high in the tower, so the children enter the tower with powers significantly stronger than anything you will usually encounter at the lower floors. As for the reason why she failed her exam - well, as Proctor Love said - the exam needs to be taken as a team. And Yeon got famous for burning ALL the regulars. Hence she failed
