Destined to Meet (Kim Possible)

Summary: (AU) Kim and Ron never lived in the same town, and because of that, they never had the chance to become friends. Their lives turned out to be much more normal because of it, but some people are destined to meet in life. (No sex)

A/N: Commissioned story. Usually don't post these types of fics here, but I figured it'll be something to read while I complete the others.

Ron honestly felt that he had a pretty dull life. He spent most of it coasting until his dad had put his foot down and demanded better from his only son.

So Ron had to go from slacking in everything, to slacking in everything but school. Though, that did let him go to one of the best schools in the country. Ron had every intention of making himself a new life in a place where nobody knew him. After all, it was a perfect situation to make it happen.

His old reputation as the quiet school nerd wouldn’t have followed him here. Ron even thought that this might be the chance to become one of the popular kids. This was the best school in the country, so Ron was sure that other people would be far more ‘nerdy’ than him.

Well, he was right.

The only issue was that Ron’s social skills were so stunted that he didn’t know how to start a conversation. After a few weeks of failure at making friends, Ron gave up and fell back to focusing on his classes. Not the best decision he could make, but it was somewhat of a coping mechanism by being too busy to think.

That changed when Ron started taking a bus back from class. To save money, he always walked back to his dorm until it was pouring one day. Ron reluctantly took the bus with the desire to not get horribly soaked from the rain. But ever since then, he never walked back to the dorm.

It wasn’t because taking the bus was much faster. Nor was it because he was tired of walking. Ron started to take the bus to catch a glimpse of the stunning girl that always sat in the back. It was a stupid reason, and Ron knew that, but he felt like this was the first time he had ever been attracted to a girl. Of course, that wasn’t true, but the feeling was similar.

Even with his social awkwardness, Ron wanted to gather the courage to talk to the girl, but he didn’t know where to start.

Like, what was the plan? Just randomly start talking to her?

Sure, that might seem to be an obvious thing to do, but the signs the girl gave off screamed, “Don’t talk to me.”

She had her headphones on while looking out the window. As far as Ron knew, that meant, “I’m listening to music, so I don’t have to listen to you.”

Whether that was true or not, Ron took it that way.

It became a strange ritual at that point. Ron had already given up trying to find an opportunity to talk to the girl, but he rode the bus anyway. Besides, how could a girl like that not be taken already? Someone that attractive had to be dating someone. Once again, not necessarily true, but it was something Ron told himself to avoid talking to her.

Even though Ron didn’t get anywhere with her, riding the bus might have been the best decision he had made in college so far.

Sure, Ron didn’t magically start dating the most attractive girl he had ever seen, but his life began to slowly change for the better.

That girl became a constantly moving goal.

A whole semester had gone by since Ron had started taking the bus. He still hadn’t made a move to let the girl know of his existence, but Ron had found a way to make it happen. Or so that was the thought in the beginning.

Ron didn’t want to stutter and stumble through the first time he talked with her, so he tried to be social again. The key was group projects.

It was almost a school-sponsored event to make friends. Random people grouped together to share a grade that would be heavily weighted on their final score. After a few rough starts, Ron got close with a few people he was proud to call his best friends.

It wasn’t being ‘popular,’ but it was certainly better than before. When he first got to the college, Ron had tried to make friends by talking about trendy things… most of which Ron had no interest in. It was obviously a horrible way to make new friends. It was proven when Ron found himself more than happy to find people that shared his interests so that it was actually fun to hang out with them.

Ron had gone back home for the holidays much happier than he ever believed he could be. Sure, he was a little disappointed that he never talked to the girl who unintentionally motivated him to improve. Still, overall, Ron actually liked attending college now.

When he came back after the holidays, Ron realized that he had a different class schedule. That should have been obvious since he would take different classes, but it didn’t come to mind that it could also mean that the girl wouldn’t be taking the bus anymore. Ron didn’t even know her name, so it was unlikely that he could find her even if he tried.

It put a slight damper on his mood, but in the end, Ron figured that this might be for the best. What he was doing wasn’t healthy anyway. It was almost to a point where that girl was getting put on a pedestal. For all Ron knew, her beauty could only be skin-deep. She could have been one of those girls that turned everything she touched toxic.

Ron still got on the bus to make sure. And there she was.

Ron immediately threw away his previous thoughts. It was stupid to think she could be toxic in the first place. She always kept to herself and didn’t really do anything to make Ron believe she was.

She looked up at him when he stepped on the bus and gave a small smile before looking away. Ron did the same before mentally fist-pumping for not nervously smiling like a weirdo. They didn’t exchange any words, but it was a start.

When he sat down in his usual seat, Ron mentally went over the classes he had left today. There was one that stood out from the rest.

Psychology.

It was a throw-away course that Ron had added simply to fill a spot. It wasn’t even required for his major, but Ron thought it could be a nice change of pace. He spent the next few minutes of the bus ride looking at the map and memorizing the path to the class. Ron had made the mistake of walking around with the map open when he first arrived at the college. Nothing screamed ‘new student’ than someone looking at a map while walking to class.

Ron did notice the girl getting off at the same stop he did, but he didn’t think much about it. He had no intention of talking to her yet, and he certainly didn’t want to come off as a stalker, so Ron always made sure to give her privacy by ignoring where she went after the ride.

Ron followed the path he memorized and arrived at his new class in a few minutes. Just looking at the people in the class told him how different it would be. Ron didn’t want to admit it, but most of his other classes were filled with guys that acted like frat boys. This one seemed to be the exact opposite. Instead of boys, this class was dominated by girls who wore Greek letters.

Ron settled into a seat with a roll of his eyes. It looked like he couldn’t escape Greek culture no matter where he went.

“Good evening! My name is Evelyn Pierce, your professor for this semester! I know most of you are used to going over the syllabus on the first day, but I’m going to change things up a little!”

Ron shifted in his seat as murmurs filled the room.

“If you’d look under your seat,” The professor continued, “You’ll find a number. There is one other person in the class with the same number. You will be partnered with that student for the semester! Now find your match!”

Ron let out a muffled groan before looking at the paper to see the number ten. Now he had to find a match in a class with around a hundred people.

Great.

People were already yelling the number they had as an advertisement. The class quickly devolved into a shouting match while the professor sat back with a look of amusement. Ron was about to give up and wait till the end to find his partner when he heard a faint shout.

“Who has ten!”

Ron narrowed his eyes and looked around before walking in the direction he heard that call. Seeing the class get quieter, Ron decided to call out his number once, “I have number ten here! Who has the other one?”

Ron saw a few people glance his way before ignoring him. He shrugged and sat down in an empty seat to wait a little longer before shouting out the number again. Ron looked around with a smirk on his face. This had to be the weirdest start to a class he would experience. He was sure the professor would tell them of a way this could have been done with much less chaos. After all, she was still looking at them like they were morons.

“Hi, are you the one with number ten?”

Ron was brought out of his thoughts and looked up before his jaw dropped in shock.

Beautiful red hair flowed to the middle of her back, bright green eyes sparkling in curiosity, and a small nose that sat above soft pink lips.

It was her.

“Y-you!”

The girl tilted her head before smiling in recognition, “Oh, I remember you! You’re the guy on the bus, right?”

“Uhh,” Ron mentally kicked himself and tried to get back control of his mouth, “That’s me. And yeah, I have number ten. Looks like we’re partners.”

The girl gave Ron another smile that almost blinded him before taking the seat next to him. She turned to Ron and said, “Nice to meet you, partner! I’m Kim, your new best friend!”

Ron knew she was joking, but he wouldn’t mind that happening. He replied with a smile, “Nice to meet you, new best friend. I’m Ron.”

They didn’t get a chance for more small talk since the professor called for their attention. There was a smile on his face throughout the rest of the class. Now that Kim wasn’t just the pretty girl on the bus, Ron felt he actually had a fighting chance.

This was a gift that practically fell on his lap. The chance that Ron would randomly pick a class that wasn’t needed for his major, and the odds he would somehow choose a seat with the same number as Kim was tiny. Ron knew that he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn’t give this his best shot.
