This drawing is a fun meta piece. Joey is in many ways the blue print for Bubba, so I thought it would be fun to have a younger Bubba who has only put on some weight but hasn't yet blown up as he does in later years gazing upon in awe at the sheer size of Joey. The joke being that Bubba can't possibly believe he would end up that huge, but of course you the audience knows very well that he does!
Other Warren Davis work related references include nods to Fatburger being the setting with the overzealous feeder from the story 'Fatburger'. As well as Brian who was also important to the story in Super Heavy Weight Class.
