Another potential idea for an interactive story
Added 2022-01-21 19:09:04 +0000 UTCSo in general it seems like the idea of a multichapter story that has some actual plot to it is a more popular idea with you guys than an anthology of loosely connected oneshots. As I thought more about it I felt like the alternating months schedule that we switched to towards the end of Interactive 8th Year probably isn't the best idea, and that it would be better to stick to monthly installments if I go forward with the multichapter concept. But I didn't want to take away either of the general prompt polls from you guys.
That's when I had a thought about potentially getting rid of the Themed polls I've been doing that are filled with my own prompts and putting a multichapter poll story in its place. If I did this, rather than having you submit options for how the story progressed I would present a poll at the end of each chapter with several different branches it could go into.
To give you an example: say we're doing a GoT story that starts with (Season 2 spoilers, if you've held out from the show/books for this long) Robb Stark going to treat with Stannis and Renly himself rather than sending his mother, which means he's there when Renly is assassinated. I would then put up a poll at the end of the chapter with several different options on how Robb responds, like:
A) He throws his weight behind Stannis' claim and prepares to help him take King's Landing
B) He attempts to forge an alliance with the Tyrells by wedding the widowed Margaery
C) He remains neutral and decides to concentrate on keeping Tywin cut off from the capital, etc.
Doing it this way would help me tell a tighter story with more of a plot to it as opposed to 8th Year, while also still letting you guys submit your nominations for the general prompt polls each month like normal. (Plus, if I'm being honest, most of the focus I put on thinking up options for the themed polls each month has been going into my Author's Prompt Commissions list recently.)
What do you guys think? Is this an idea I should consider going forward with? I'll probably gauge general interest from patrons at all levels before I lock this in, but I wanted to check in with those of you at the $5+ tiers first to see what you think, and whether you'd prefer something like this. As always, I'm open to any suggestions you might have or feedback you'd like to offer.

I suppose that's something I'd play be ear, with that or any other possible story idea. There might be times where it'd be good to play around with that, both as a way to mix in some more smut without the main character screwing anything that moves and to influence the direction of the story. Using this Robb idea as an example: maybe there's a chapter where voters decide what Theon gets up to, and whether he actually goes through with attacking Winterfell and/or 'killing' Bran and Rickon. Just a thought off the top of my head.

2022-01-22 16:44:16 +0000 UTCMy thought was that the first poll (open to all patrons) would be determining which story idea to run with out of a few different options. Since we passed the $500 threshold and a one-time bonus fic was attached to that milestone, I'm thinking I might do two chapters next month to start us off. Could be a good idea since the initial chapter may or may not have any smut, depending on whether it seems to fit.

2022-01-22 12:09:40 +0000 UTCI think considering you have the Authors prompt commissions now, this idea would work really well with the usual HP and Non-HP polls each month. Will the $5 patrons get a vote on the initial story idea/universe or will you just choose that yourself?

Thanks for telling me; I'll probably stay away from anything starring Jon if I do go with something GOT themed just to avoid any chance of them having too many similarities.

If only one option suggests smut it's obvious which one will win, so in a case like this one I would need to give the others their own appeal. Your Melisandre/Margaery/Dacey is a good example of that.

I see a lot of stories where the author supposedly lets voters decide, but the choices amount to: Will he fuck her or not? Of course people are going to vote yes, so itβs not really a choice at all. Why should they vote for any other option? So maybe say that A) letβs him fuck Melisandre and C) has him spend time with Dacey Mormont, and if you choose one option the other is permanently locked out. Make it have real consequences. Maybe even punish them for being too horny, if Robb spends too much time fucking women he isnβt concentrating on the war and he loses a battle or heβs betrayed. A)Attend war council B) Fuck woman
