Kraken Pot Cove Battle Map - Launch

Hello Adventurers! For this release, we are going to the beach for a fishing trip. Yes, we will be hunting a Kraken for this map at Kraken Pot Cove. I went for an enclosed cove layout for this one, with the entrance closed off, creating a natural(ish) giant lobster pot for capturing sea monsters. There should be lots of room to run this map any way you want, with space in the open ocean, on the cliffs, on the beach, and even on the walkways at the actual ‘pot’ entrance.

Next Maps

I’ll be working on the Roadside Ruins for the end of the month, and the Jousting Field will follow.

Patreon and Apple charges

You may have heard that Apple wants to charge 30% more to anyone signing up for a Patreon through its app. This will not affect anyone currently signed up for my Patreon. It only applies to new signups through the official Patreon app on the Apple App Store. The simple solution is to use something other than the Apple App. I’d recommend using your internet browser on your phone or PC instead. There is a possibility that Patreon may bring in other changes over the next year or so. As I learn more, I’ll let you know. To be clear, my current tier costs remain the same as always.

Spooky Month Map Ideas

I always welcome ideas for new maps, but I wanted to make a specific call for spooky ideas well in advance of October. The weirder, the better! Please post in the replies or send me a message through Patreon!

Downloads

The files, thumbnails, and tags can be accessed on the Map List Page. You must be logged in to Patreon and signed up to the correct tier to access them. Remember, you are only charged for map releases; you can download all the old maps at no extra cost!

Thanks so much for your support. You are very much appreciated, both old and new Patrons. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend, and as always, happy adventuring! Now, let's go fishing. I don’t believe we’ll need to exaggerate the size of our catch for this one ;)

Map Descriptions

As you approach the coast, the fresh sea breeze carries the smell of seaweed and the call of gulls. The cliff tops are covered in grass, grazed short by scruffy-looking goats. Simple metal bells hang from their necks, clattering away as they move between patches of windswept gorse bushes.

The beach is moon-shaped, with coarse grey and white sand mixed with pebbles and broken seashells. The cove is sheltered, with cliffs rising up on both sides to create a narrow opening. Beyond the cliffs is the deep blue of the open ocean and the foam of waves crashing against the sea cliffs. Small fishing boats are pulled onto the beach, just out of the water.

Across the cove's entrance is a wooden structure extending from one side of the cliffs to the other. It appears to be some kind of sea defence, with an opening in the centre that allows boats to enter and exit. Along the walls of the structure are long spikes and two large ballistas. The structure can be reached by walking along the cliffs surrounding the cove, on the right along the grassy cliff edge and to the left along a narrow path cut into the cliffs.

Notes and Tips

Variants

Day/Night for all relevant maps

A desert variant for those who like a scorching beach holiday!

And a Nine Hells version for the more exotic trips.

You also get all the maps without the Kraken Pot so that it can be used as a generic beach encounter.

I've also collected a couple of existing boat assets for you to drop in!

Comments

Ya the Jousting field should be cool, and I think I can add a few other elements. I'll see what I can fit into the map without it being super crowded.

Afternoon Maps

Stoked for the jousting map! I really think fighting rings and an attached armor stand/small market alley or tent area would also push the map's usability beyond a simple joust encounter. If you had a jousting area, a sword fighting ring, and a small archery range, you could run an entire 3-round fight scene/tournament all on the one map. As always, I vote for a desert variant so I can use it in my current desert campaign!
