Into the Wilds Battle Maps - Launch

Hello Adventurers! It's the end of the month and I have a few general-use maps for you. The Into the Wilds maps are simple wilderness maps without any specific theme or landmark, basically for those times you just need a simple map without a specific landmark, path or trail. I’ve given them moor/scrub/lightly wooded themes so they’ll fit with as many locations as possible, the alternatives give you more versions as well as some pine forests.

• Deep Warren/Burrow
  I’ve been wanting to create a new mini-dungeon and was thinking a more natural animal/monster lair would be fun. And so with Easter approaching, I’ve decided on a Warren with burrows, tunnels and chambers dug into the earth that could be used as a lair for many different monsters, including the most terrifying of all, the giant killer bunny rabbit.
• Oasis Cave
  Deep in the desert sands lies an Oasis with the entrance to a cave that legend tells holds unimaginable treasures. However that's just folklore, really it's full of giant scorpions. This will be a small desert oasis with a cave lair for some desert creatures. Should be great for a travel encounter when traversing a desert.

Map Description

The wilderness reaches to the horizon in an expanse of scrubland, dotted with thickets of windswept trees. There are no well-trodden trails to guide your way, only the occasional game trail winding through the underbrush, barely visible beneath the tangle of vegetation and grasses. The ground beneath your feet is uneven, dotted with small rocks and hidden crevices, ready to turn an ankle or trip the unwary. Groups of larger rocks push through the vegetation, creating small islands in a sea of yellow grasses and stunted shrubs.

Notes and Tops

• 30x30 Grid Maps
• These maps have intentionally open spaces. In the wildernesses of the world, you’ll find large expanses without any intelligent manipulation of the environment. Just the odd game trail to help the party through the rugged terrain.
• Without much cover, it's easy for monsters to see the party. Have creatures appear on the horizon, too far away to be identified. They move across the landscape, stop and begin to get closer, coming to investigate the party.
• The Herd: The party sees a large herd of creatures in the distance. After watching them for a while the party realises they are getting closer. They begin to stampede and it's only then they notice the predators following them. The predators could attack the party with the added danger of stampeding creatures.
• Scavengers Feast: The party notices vultures circling, ahead they see a large carcass with scavenger birds surrounding it. Any number of dangerous animals could arrive to check out the feast: big cats, giant insects, hyenas, knolls or drakes.
• The Worm: The party feels a distinct rumble in the ground. Off in the distance, they see a plume of dust erupt into the air. More dust plumes erupt closer to the party until a giant worm bursts from the ground. It could fight above ground then recede and appear in another location. The ground could be unstable in places as the fight continues.
