The Clock Tower Battle Map Set - Launch

Hello Adventurers! I’ve been working hard over the last week or so on our latest map, ‘The Clock Tower’. Originally I was planning on it being some stairs leading to the top of the tower, but ended up creating a set of three maps (with a bunch of extra variants for you Delvers). They can be used separately or in sequence for a longer battle encounter. You have a base, which I decided should be some kind of Chapel/temple, a set of stairs leading up the tower as a separate map, then another map with the actual top along with a clock mechanism.

There are only a few days before the end of the month, but I’d like to try to get another map out if I can, so I’ll be working on a ‘rocky desert map’ for the next few days. Hopefully it can be used for both desert campaigns and also locations with rocky wilderness areas.

Introduction

The stairs circle the outer wall of the tower, stone steps wide and worn smooth by centuries of use. Lead framed windows let in yellowish light, their glass making the world beyond ripple and distort. You look up the center of the tower and can make out a box hanging in space, metal struts locking the famous timepiece to the rooms stone walls. The intricate mechanism running this clock tower is famous throughout the land, as a technical marvel and a magical wonder, its power source both rare and extremely valuable. And this you surmise is why ‘The Blood Clan’ is here. Black clad figures hang from its sides, crowbars prying loose panels. As they do so bright blue light spills forth from within, illuminating masked faces and glinting off dark dangerous eyes.

You watch a panel fall, spinning in the air as it tumbles past you. It clatters to the stone below and looking up again you lock eyes with one of the thieves. You hear a sharp whistle and a number of shadows jump from the clock’s mechanism, landing deftly above you and blocking your way. The lead figure steps forward, daggers held in red stained hands. You hear an audible snort of disgust “Adventurer scum!” he spits, before he and his brethren leap down the stairs towards you.

Falling down the towers interior will be very bad, if this happens and you want to give the player a second chance remember to describe scaffolding as they ascend, then have the player hit it on the way down, taking damage but surviving to return after running back up the stairs. Describe the fall in excruciating detail, have fun with it!
Running up so many flights of stairs can be exhausting, play around with movement and stamina rules but remember that having massive debuffs from running up stairs isn’t very epic, so make it a minor inconvenience for a round or two.
A crazed cult leader has kidnapped someone (a nun or other holy person maybe) and plans to sacrifice them at the top of the clock tower defiling the holy place. Fight your way to the top before the ‘appointed hour’.
A dark ritual is being performed at the clock tower’s top, using the mechanisms power source as a catalyst, stop it!
Use the stairs map as part of any building with a long staircase, crop the map to hide the exterior of the tower. The same can be said for the top and base maps.
Have something big and scaly (Dragon or something similar) enter the tower and climb or fly up its center. Have a running fight with the creature. Or it could have taken up residence at the top, the party must fight their way past its smaller defenders before taking it on.
Have enemies throw things down the stairs at the party.
Have enemies use grappling hooks to swing from one side of the tower to the other! Or just teleport around!
