the "That's good, then. Take good care of your friends" got me good

2025-10-23 00:55:10 +0000 UTCI would say when we saw Twilight as a young child, he must've been around 6 years old. He joined the army when he was 15, maybe 16, and when he was reunited with his old friend he was maybe 18-19, I think 🤔

2025-10-21 04:34:01 +0000 UTCHow can an episode be so heartwarming, horrifying, tear jerking and eloquent all at the same time! Even a crusty old buzzard like me got misty-eyed.😢

2025-10-20 21:25:22 +0000 UTCI don't think Loid remembers his own name. I absolutely bawled watching Loid hug his mom as bombs fell. As a mom myself I don't think I have the strength it takes not to fall apart in a situation like that. Loid's mom was so fucking strong.

2025-10-20 19:13:24 +0000 UTCReally loved how they adapted this, made me tear up. It was brutal to read how Loid lost everything, alongside his friends who he technically lost twice. The ongoing theme of Loid and how ignorance is a sin comes full circle with him becoming a spy. There’s a reason it’s called Military “Intelligence”. Not only does he make use of lying as a skill but he is able to avoid that ignorance he talks about. Being a spy requires knowing the truth and the facts to pull out a mission successfully. It’s why Twilight became the best because I believe he set his mind to learning as much as he could and that’s why he’s so smart and prone to overthinking.

2025-10-20 14:51:24 +0000 UTCNow go back to season 1, episode 14 and rewatch the scene where Handler interrogates the terrorists, and then her exchange with Twilight afterwards. Hits a little different.

2025-10-20 14:26:11 +0000 UTCLoid's life was spared twice by lies. The first, as you mentioned, was with the helmet he bought by lying to his father (technically he would've also died had he not felt guilty and left his friends). The second was enlisting early using somebody else's identity which allowed him to climb the ranks faster than his friends because he had a head start. Such events surely would change the way you think because Loid would not be alive had he been a completely honest boy/young man. I also love how Loid "broke character" when he told Anya to treasure her friends as we saw him recalling his memories with his true childhood friends, meaning he said that openly as his true self. Finally on a somewhat comedic note, I was listening to the show's official podcast and Eguchi-san (Loid's VA) and Tanezaki-san (Anya's VA) were talking about the recording of this episode. Neither the cast nor the crew know Loid's true name, but for the sake of continuity they needed to say something and censor his name in post. The cast decided to use Loid's VA's real name during the recording. Tanezaki-san said she was in control room and she and the staff were laughing since it was funny to see Eguchi-san being called by his real name while in character, but Eguchi-san said that the experience actually helped him in acting those scenes because he was able to relate to Loid and how he must have felt to be called by his real name.

2025-10-20 13:50:01 +0000 UTCThis episode really solidifies why loid is the way he is. He keeps everything at arms length because he has lost so much he cared for already. The "for the mission" is less professionalism and more a way to keep himself emotionally detached so he doesn't hurt when the mission is done. But we do know loid sees them as family implied by the ED where the family is all together and then the camera pulls back and it's not the apartment we see but young loids family home. Additionally this story in the manga solidified a theory for me about loid and how Endo is writing him and it's tied to Germanic/ norse myth. But it's a lot to get into

2025-10-20 13:31:20 +0000 UTCFor Loid, this was truly a terrifying and tragic nightmare,he about everything he went through. He crying after reuniting with his childhood friends only for him to lose all of them twice in the same night Especially when he lost his mother i literally cried😭 Because my parents passed away one after another a few years ago, I can roughly understand and feel his immense pain. No matter what your name is, no matter who you are, I hope you find happiness and peace someday, maybe the happiness and peace you are expecting are already by your side BTW:loid growing up to be a better dad to anya despite all the trauma he went throught. he doesnt realize it but im sure that heals his inner child seeing she loves him so much

2025-10-20 13:20:01 +0000 UTCWith such a backstory, Loid is ready to join the Straw Hat crew ! This masterful episode reminds me a quote of a french writer, Paul Valéry : “War is a massacre of people who don’t know each other, for the benefit of people who know each other but don’t massacre each other”
