He is a realist, a moderate and even though he personally disagrees with the country's decisions, he still pushes through and does his job. Just imagine how worse the country could treat the 86 if people like General Karlstahl were not in charge. There are tons of Alba who help in their own way, but against a system that won't let them. Imagine if an 86 hater were in charge of the military.

That story she told about her neighbour made me feel like she had always felt like the "86" shouldn't be treated that way but because of self preservation she denied them. So she is projecting her self preservationist ideals onto Lena but also projecting mainly due to her regrets because she wanted to have the same strength of will like Lena. She wanted to have that mentality that Lena has and fight for what she knows to be right but feels that she had missed her opportunity to be the difference.

I wonder if you caught you them all. And episode 8 was so good, despite the hardships, the 86 live with pride...it's such a powerful message. And too think, this is only episode 9!!

They both got fed up with Lena and little Shin poking and asking painful for them questions, so they took thier anger and frustrasions out on thier loved ones. Annete verbally and Rei physically. We already know how deeply Rei still loved Shin, even after he got angry and almost killed him, from Lena's flashback. So if we connect Annet and Rei, we might assume how Annette truely feels about Lena despite everything that she said to Lena.

2025-09-10 21:43:53 +0000 UTCThe scar on Anju's back says "Whore's Daughter." It was done by fellow 86 because one of Anju's parents was a full blooded Alba and she looks extremely close to. So they took out their hate of the Alba on her. Also during the combat scene with the flashes of the kids playing with the fireworks/sparklers, each still frame of them that is directly after an impact blast is showing the 86 that was taken out by said impact

I will say though, after seeing the ending, you should definitely go back and rewatch the flashback with Annette's childhood friend/neighbors! Also look at her drawing on the wall of them and her together! This show is so amazing at connecting things together, it's crazy.

The imagery of the fireworks going off so brightly and then the remnants laying on the ground like that feels like an ode to the lives of 86, such bright futures but they shine/go off for such a brief period of time before they're snuffed out.
