But the subs were actually really fast, so its hard to read them while watching these really detailed scenes in the background.

And it’s funny that back when you watched that ep, you didn’t know of the names of those brothers. And then earlier this year you met other versions of them during the war in Shippuden. The Japanese ep name is: "Kinkaku and Ginkaku's Man-Eating Gourd" the names in English were Terror and Plague. They also used a gourd for their threats against people. If the villagers didn’t say their name via attendance, they were sucked into the gourd. Just like what happened in Shippuden with that version of the brothers. I was looking something up and saw the Japanese name of the ep and thought I’d mention it ^__^

Big respect for trying this as your first Chinese animation — you're diving into deep waters right away 😂 Lord of the Mysteries has a huge world, It’s based on one of the most famous Chinese web novels ever — like, almost 4 million words long. Your guessing is on the right track, the world is kinda like Victorian London mixed with magic, cults, and ancient gods. The story is slow-paced, full of mystery, worldbuilding, like Sherlock Holmes meets Lovecraft than Dragon Quest. Basically MC got thrown into an alternate world, don't know shit the rules of this world, and he won't start out strong. He has to figure out everything. BUT I think in the beginning, the story mostly focuses on MC and the small circle around him. I haven’t read the novel myself either, so I’m figuring it out alongside you 😅 The animation will probably start very slow — it’s a slow-burn mystery rather than fast-paced action. So if it feels like not much is happening at first, that’s expected. You honestly picked one of the hardest Chinese animations to start with — but if you’re vibing with it, I’ll totally follow the journey with you! 🙌

It looks like the actual episode was a bit better, so it might have been a YouTube thing. Definitely much better than the looks of To Be Hero X (I couldn't make it through the first 5 minutes of that). Don't know if I'll keep watching this one or not. Still haven't watched the 2nd episode.

2025-06-29 07:02:21 +0000 UTCAfter checking the Crunchyroll subs again, I can confirm that they are indeed really bad. Missing Parts, wrong or misleading translation, and too short on screen. There are other, better versions with (fan)-subtitles out there in the wild, but well. Maybe the English dub translation will be better, as it should not be done by crunchyroll. I fear for the japanese with english subtitle version, for that they will use the same bad subtitles again. Since the series is extremly fast paced, not understanding what is said will lead to more confusion as is intended and will lower the enjoyment massivly. Shame on you crunchyroll.
