2025-01-15 05:43:23 +0000 UTCI don't think there was any malice on the part of the ladies-in-waiting. They wanted to cheer up Lady Lihua and do something for her that made her happy in the past. They just didn't understand. I seriously doubt it was ever explained to them that the powder was poison. I can imagine them not being important enough in somebody's eyes to inform and I can imagine them being protected from the knowledge because it would have been they who put the make-up on their mistress. Perhaps it was thought they didn't need to know that something they did caused the prince's death. That's me speculating but it would be doubly sad if it went down like that. You'd have someone wanting to protect the ladies-in-waiting from information that might hurt them, leading to the ladies-in-waiting continuing to apply the powder to make Lady Lihua happy through feeling a little bit of normality. Two big mistakes made through loving gestures that almost killed the concubine. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions, as they say. I'm reminded of a poem... I liked all the previous episodes, especially ep 3, but this episode is the one that really clinched it for me as a must see. One thing I noticed with this episode and verified with rewatches is that the animation felt different. The line work initially looked lower in quality but the animation seemed improved in ways. It seemed like there was either a lot of rotoscoping or reference footage used to animate things. Like a lot of Maomao’s animations or the montage of the infant son. Even some of subtle facial changes. There’s one moment when Maomao is scolding the lady-in-waiting where Maomao’s face goes from anger to possibly empathy as she sees the the realization on the lady-in-waiting’s face as to what she had been doing. It’s such a small moment, but for whatever reason really stood out to me in an episode with a lot of great moments. Of course, that slap was the highlight of the episode.

They’re hilarious and he is sure trying too hard with a girl who literally hates all of his tricks, but that probably just makes him love it more Oh you mentioned the flowers in the intro, not all of them will be mentioned or explained but some of them show up in episodes (like the Fuyao flower for Lady Fuyao), some of them represent the characters; like the tiny yellow flower represents Maomao. Maybe at the end of this cour someone can give you a more in depth analysis of all of the flowers and what they represent once all these other characters make an appearance

I started this show when episode 7 was already out and consumed all 7 episodes in a row. I then moved onto the manga and read all available chapters of it on the same day. But it wasn't enough because I then bought all 9 or 10 (at the time available) LN on Kindle and read through them all in around a month. Since this month we have officially 13 LNs with English translation with the 14th one coming at the end of May. I love this world and it's characters.

So I might have to drop out for a month or two (I even said this on the chat, before New Year, because I didn't realize that your Patreon doesn't charge from the 1st). IF and this is only IF you want to, I can tell you the differences between Anime and Light Novel. There is another sort of similar story that happens in "Chinese-like" Country. It's called: "Raven Of The Inner Palace" or "Koukyuu no Karasu". It had Anime adaptation, which was okay, but it didn't really hit super well (maybe because the adaptation was decent but not great) - I doubt you will watch it on the channel, but if you do like "Apothecary Diaries" you might like "Raven..." You could read Light Novel in private time - it's really good. And it's a bit similar - since "Apothecary..." is sort of like detective story with medicine and "Raven..." is sort of like Detective story with medicine and supernatural. Of course both are much more than that :)

I love how she just loses her sh*t when she finds out that they're still using the powder and I also love how you caught onto the fact that they animated Maomao moving ever so slightly away when she realized what she had done. Putting the intentions of Lady Lihua's ladies-in-waiting aside, they clearly had no respect for authority because they were caught up in their confidence that they "know" what's best. They disregarded the confiscation efforts for the makeup and they clearly didn't approve of the fact that the emperor brought somebody from the outside their Pavilion. There's definitely a line that isn't to be crossed with Maomao.

You are correct that she says "iinjanai?" and "anjanai?" in the first two lines, but the chorus is actually saying "rattarai" in both. You can hear it much more clearly in either their live performance and their First Take video, both available on YouTube.

It is only by borrowing Jinship"s power that she can do things. Most Lady in waiting are from noble families as well so she has to play her rank. However, when a life is in danger, she doesn't care anymore
