Why Experimental Documentaries Matter (And Why I Made One)

I'm giving all my patron's early access to this video which will be public very soon.

This video examines the overlooked and strange genre of experimental documentaries and what we can learn from them.

I also talk about the weird experimental film I made in 2020 Labyrinth Ion, and announce that it's now available for rental or purchase at https://labyrinthion.com

As a special thank you to my patrons, if you want to buy the Digital Special Edition you can use promo code "PATRONSONLY" at checkout for 25% off.

Thanks Ian! I usually have the VO pretty scripted although I usually do another 1 or 2 drafts during the edit as I refine what I want to say. I don't script out the visuals at all, I usually just have a loose idea of what I want to show. For some videos the edit informs the script and I'll write or re-write some sections after I have the rough edit finished.

Really great video. Impressed how accessible and non-judgemental it is considering non-verbal non-fiction is a rather academic niche. I'm curious, when you make your videos, to what extent do you have a script before editing?
