2025-04-29 14:05:15 +0000 UTCYeah, Seth MacFarlane got his start on Dexter's Lab, then moved over to Johnny Bravo. Family Guy actually came to be entirely because CN used to have something called the "What a Cartoon Show" where lower-tier animators could get funding to make their own pilots. A LOT of random cartoons came from that. Everything from Powerpuff Girls to Kids Next Door. Hell, the guys who organized it moved to Nick at one point, and that version spawned Fairly OddParents and My Life As a Teenage Robot. Even shows as late as Adventure Time. Seth MacFarlane's pilot was called "Larry and Steven" and it was basically a kid-friendly version of Family Guy with a lot more slapstick (the main characters are obviously early versions of Peter and Brian). It didn't get picked up, but Seth MacFarlane retooled it into an adult cartoon and pitched it to Fox. It's no exaggeration to say What A Cartoon and its successors literally shaped the entire era of animation.
