IOAFD - 1148. An Impenetrable Sword Defense
Added 2026-01-19 13:56:41 +0000 UTC“What?”
“What did you say?”
Amidst the shouts of these sword experts, Chen Wentian unleashed the second descent of Ascalon, Hundred Reflections of Fate’s Return. As the countless sword lights from the suppression formation converged around him, the hundred sword reflections from his White Star Sword flashed and danced, surrounding him on all sides like a protective barrier.
Ping!
Ping! Ping! Ping!
The sound of sword strikes rang out. Blades met blades, faster than the speed of comprehension.
Chen Wentian remained at the center of the sword storm, steadily defending, steadily fleeing. Against the suppression of three Spirit Kings, a mere Spirit Lord could still escape so freely, it defied common sense. It was beyond the understanding of the human mind. It was simply divine.
“This… this…” Luo Ming muttered in disbelief.
He had comprehended a portion of the essence of this sword art from the dragon claw half. He thought he had understood but now he knew that he had misled himself. Transforming a sword into ten sword reflections or a hundred, it was not a supreme attacking sword but an impenetrable sword defense.
Against the strongest suppression formation of the Limitless Sword Hall, anchored by three Spirit Kings, it still could not suppress the sword art of divine dragons, even if it was wielded by a mere Spirit Lord.
Luo Ming was angry, awestruck, and filled with overflowing jealousy. Such a sword move was simply perfect. For a sword fanatic with a pure sword heart, he could find no flaws. He simply had to have it. He had to.
“Chase! Catch him alive!” He ordered, “Wear him down! I don’t believe he can hold on forever.”
“Yes, sword master!” The two sword venerables replied through gritted teeth.
They were already tired but they also understood the situation. Their Limitless Sword Hall had contemplated the problem of the dragon sword art for twenty years. The first issue they had to resolve was the source of divine energy. After trying many methods, they finally spent a fortune to obtain a sword crafted from the remains of a dragon.
This Chen Wentian had no such item. They fully knew what the White Star Sword was capable of. It was their sword, after all. This meant only one thing. His flames were far stronger than he had originally revealed. It was so pure that it was capable of supporting this divine sword art flashing before their eyes. They had to capture him alive and slowly extract all of his secrets.
The two sword venerables took out bottles of spiritual pills from their spatial bags, popping several into their mouths at once. Soon, their spiritual aura surged to their former peak and the suppression formation gained a ferociousness that wasn’t there before.
Chen Wentian felt the shift and reacted in kind. He picked out another soul from his soul realm and channeled its strength into his body. With that, he maintained the one hundred sword reflections around him.
He couldn’t completely predict what these sword fanatics would do but their current reaction was within his expectations. It was also why he changed his plans after comprehending the Hundred Reflections of Fate’s Return. It was the perfect bait for hooking in a bunch of Spirit Kings.
The immortal battle continued like this for a long time. Luo Ming didn’t dare to kill Chen Wentian outright while Chen Wentian resisted their suppression. He continued fleeing along his original path, deviating here and there to avoid being encircled.
A Spirit King’s strength and stamina were at least ten times greater than those of a Spirit Lord, but this battle had already exceeded all common sense. The sword venerables were forced to use precious spirit replenishing pills to maintain their fighting strength. Even the sword master was forced to use those pills as well, despite his prideful reluctance.
Meanwhile, Chen Wentian kept running like a tireless rabbit. His aura remained at the Spirit Lord Realm but people chasing him could no longer figure out what was true and what was false. They couldn’t rule out the possibility that he was secretly a Spirit King. Regardless of everything, they still had to catch him and pry the secret of the dragon sword art from him.
After chasing for a while with no change, it was Luo Ming who finally made a decision. It wasn’t a decision he made lightly but one that considered everything, including the myriad of secret powers that Chen Wentian possessed.
“This direction will lead us to Jiling City. We’re already about halfway there. Does he want to drag the Southern Temple into this?” His expression hardened, “If my Limitless Sword Hall cannot obtain his secrets, then nobody else can! Luo Xin, Luo Qing, I will give this little bastard ten more minutes. If we cannot catch him, then we will kill him! Even if he dies, I have seen the true Hundred Reflections of Fate’s Return and I have already comprehended some things. After we take back the complete dragon claw, I am confident I can still make a breakthrough!”
The two sword venerables bowed their heads, “Yes, sword master!”
They gave Chen Wentian ten more minutes to run.
Unfortunately for them, he didn’t need so much time. They had already arrived at his chosen location.
Guided by Jasmine’s directions, he flew over a deep, blue lake. He didn’t hesitate and dove in.
“What is he doing?”
“Don’t let him get away!”
The two sword venerables led the way and followed Chen Wentian into the lake. Sword Master Luo Ming was only a second or two behind.
Those few seconds were what Chen Wentian needed. In the few moments between him diving into the lake and the sword venerables following, he used the White Star Sword as a distraction, sending the treasure sword into the depths of the lake, surrounded by his flames and sword aura. Then, he covered himself in shadow and hid in the darkness of the deep waters. At the same time, a little black dog appeared beside him.
As the two Spirit Kings passed them, chasing the fleeting sword, Chen Wentian charged out of the lake with Tiantian, colliding head-first with the diving sword master Luo Ming.
“What!” Luo Ming’s eyes widened as he caught sight of the beast clinging to Chen Wentian’s shoulder.
He sensed something was wrong and his heart filled with uncertainty. But it was already too late.
Chen Wentian’s blazing figure barreled into Luo Ming, pushing him high into the sky.
Chen Wentian hugged the old man, fully displaying his strength as a Spirit King, momentarily suppressing the sword master’s ability to resist.
Then, Tiantian activated her spatial Dao and all three disappeared into a pitch-black spatial crack.

Luo Ming at 7th stage - very close to spirit emperor - better to get rid of him first and then harvest limitless sword hall souls.
