IOAFD - 1146. Comparing Swords (I)

Chen Wentian, propelled by the power of blue flames, flew very fast. Flame cultivators naturally had an advantage in speed over other types of Daos, especially in a straight line. If he was against ordinary immortals, even if they were at the Spirit King Realm, it was difficult to say if they could catch up to him.

Unfortunately, sword cultivators were also very fast, more so if they cultivated movement skills in conjunction with their sword. One example was Peng Lingxi and her Lonely Sword Wanderer. It was a sword art focused on speed and her speed was the fastest amongst his disciples.

Immortal Limitless Sword Luo Ming was such a sword cultivator. A lifelong sword fanatic, he was naturally an expert at all kinds of movement skills and killing ways. Chen Wentian had a head start of several breaths, during which he had already covered several hundred meters, almost a full kilometer in the sky. But Luo Ming caught up with no effort at all. It looked as if Chen Wentian was going all out. Yet for Luo Ming, it was just a casual afternoon walk.

“Do you still think you can run?” Luo Ming asked as he flew beside Chen Wentian.

Chen Wentian glanced at the old man and scoffed, “You are still underestimating me.”

Saying that, he drew upon the power of the Insightful Sparrow. His body burst out with incredible speed and accelerated in the blink of an eye.

“Hoh, interesting. His confidence wasn’t entirely for show. But it is still not enough…” Luo Ming pointed his sword forward and whispered, “One Sword, One Scenery…”

His figure turned into a blur and shot ahead.

With each stab of his sword, the world below him flashed past. All it took was one sword to pass by one scenery, going from the mountains to the fertile river plain and then back into the mountains again.

He once again caught up to Chen Wentian. This time, he didn’t show any mercy as a heavy sword fell down on Chen Wentian’s fleeing figure.

Hong!

A deafening sound reverberated across the mountains. The sky around Chen Wentian fell as if pressed down by a divine being. The way ahead was about to be cut off by a descending sword formation. He didn’t know what kind of sword art this was, and he didn’t want to find out. He sent more soul power into the Insightful Swallow’s soul like a raging river, pushing his speed to the limit.

Woosh!

With a gust of wind, he dived towards a narrow valley. As the oppressive sword formation fell before him, he hugged the top of the trees and raced over a white-water river.

Fifty meters…

Twenty meters…

Ten meters…

Just as he was about to be trapped, he burst out over a waterfall and escaped the sword domain amidst the mist. Then, he opened his invisible wings and soared toward the sky like an arrogant sparrow.

Luo Ming followed. But now, there were some doubts in his heart.

“He actually escaped my Mourning Devil Sword Domain?” He muttered.

This flying speed obviously wasn’t a product of cultivating blue dragon flames. This meant that he cultivated other Daos or that he had other powers supporting him.

“Sword Master! Why not just kill him directly?” Luo Xin asked after the two sword venerables had caught up.

“We can’t let a guy like him escape!” Luo Qing added.

“He naturally won’t escape me. I simply want him to reveal all of his secrets. Then, I will kill him slowly!”

Luo Ming extended a palm and a large sword appeared. It was abnormally long and wide, inscribed with glowing blue letters. Then, he stepped onto this sword and flew after Chen Wentian, rapidly closing the distance once again.

Chen Wentian glanced behind and grimaced. This old fart even had a flying sword. He was so rich. Ordinary immortals were happy to be able to afford immortal weapons or armor. An immortal flying sword would have normally been considered a shameful waste. But, considering the strength of the Limitless Sword Hall and its unfathomable background, it was to be expected.

Secretly, Chen Wentian was a little happy. Because of the flying sword, the two sword venerables were starting to fall behind. It would mean fewer problems to deal with later.

But, for now, he had to deal with the biggest problem, at least until he reached the ambush point, which was still far away.

Shing!

The sword of a sword slicing through the air announced Luo Ming’s arrival behind.

Chen Wentian held the White Star Sword and turned quickly, swinging the sword in one smooth motion.

Dugu’s Tenth Sword, First Movement, Slash the World!

There was a flash of light as two sword beams met in midair. After a moment of struggle, Chen Wentian’s slash still lost out badly, as if his sword slash was made of white fog. But that moment gave him enough time to dodge away and continue fleeing.

“Haha, very good!” Luo Ming said, seemingly enjoying himself, “You really didn’t disappoint me. I had heard that the Eastern Sanmu Subcontinent was the birthplace of the Sword Saint, Dugu Qiushen. Although I have not had the honor of crossing swords with Senior Dugu, I have experienced his sword style from his many disciples scattered across the land. I have to say, your Dugu sword is really bad. It brings shame to all descendants of Saint Dugu. Here, let me show you how it should really be done!”

His sword blade suddenly glowed white-hot. A fearsome sword energy gathered along its edge. And as he swung his sword casually, it was as if the whole world was being split in half. The power and profoundness behind this slash surpassed Chen Wentian’s slash by several times.

Chen Wentian did his best to dodge but it seemed the slash seemed to follow his every move. It didn’t make sense but it still happened. Luo Ming wanted to slash him and the sword followed its original will. He had no time to consider if this was still the truest form of Dugu’s Tenth Sword or something Luo Ming comprehended. With nowhere to run, he was forced to face this slash head-on.

Chen Wentian stabbed his sword toward the sky.

Dugu’s Tenth Sword, Second Movement, Pierce the Heavens!

A brilliant ray of sword light erupted from his sword tip, carving a hole through the sky and through the descending slash. This small gap expanded as the strength of the slash was pierced through and the fearsome might dissipated just enough for Chen Wentian to slip through.

Luo Ming seemed to not care that his attack was blocked, “That was much better than your first slash. Since you know the second movement, you should know the third, right?”

Chen Wentian stabbed his sword toward Luo Ming’s face. It was another sword to pierce the heavens. But it was far from enough.

Luo Ming easily blocked the stab and made a familiar stab of his own. It was his version of Pierce the Heavens, one that seemed to have gained an unnatural will to follow Chen Wentian’s every move.

Chen Wentian was forced to use the third and final movement of Dugu’s Tenth Sword, Destroy All Hells, launching a rapid series of attacks, covering the sky between him and Luo Ming with a chaotic storm of white sword lights.

Luo Ming laughed behind him, “Good, good! Since you showed me your sword, I'll show you mine!”

A familiar sword energy erupted from his sword. It was the same third movement of Dugu’s Tenth Sword. Only, his Destroy All Hells has five times the number of attacks. His sword beams were also two or three times as bright. It was an overpowering attack that could truly destroy all eighteen levels of hell.

“Shit…” That was all Chen Wentian could utter as he watched his sword attack being swept away.
