IOAFD - 1145. Change of Plans

While Chen Wentian was comprehending the second descent of Ascalon, Luo Ming and the two sword venerables were patiently waiting. Fusing the two dragon claw halves with flames was not an easy process. Otherwise, they would not have kidnapped a Spirit Lord from the Eastern Sanmu Subcontinent. Perhaps if it were pure dragon flames at a higher realm, the dragon claw could have restored within a few breaths. But given Chen Wentian’s strength and his meager flames, the fact that he was even able to affect the dragon claw was a worthy accomplishment.

Luo Ming didn’t mind that it took a long time. They weren't wasting any energy, merely watching. And it didn’t look like Chen Wentian was skimping on any effort so in their eyes, they could still be full of hope and excitement.

Surrounded by these sword fanatics, Chen Wentian was merely acting out an intricate play. Regardless of what he did, they weren’t going to let him go. At best, they would imprison him or bind him with multiple layers of spiritual oaths until he was nothing but a slave. At worst, they could come up with all kinds of ways to torture him to death, including using Peng Lingxi.

Chen Wentian used these precious minutes to consider the situation carefully.

First, he had to admit that the sword master of the Limitless Sword Hall was indeed a genius. He was able to forcibly comprehend the intricacies of the sword art of dragons from only a spiritual imprint, an ancient imprint which contained no details or written words. What he created was his own version of the second descent, with the name the Sword of Yashi Jilun which he had probably heard from elsewhere.

Normally, this should have been impossible. It was a coincidence of multiple circumstances, similar to Chen Wentian but also different. Luo Ming was born with a pure sword heart, the strongest constitution for pursuing the Great Dao of the sword. Then, he obtained half a dragon claw by chance that contained the sword aura from the distant past. Finally, that sword in his hand was probably crafted from the remains of divine dragons, which acted as a source for the divine energy that the Sword of Yashi Jilun required.

Chen Wentian thought about Peng Lingxi. She also had a pure sword heart. If she had such a dragon sword, would she also be able to cultivate the sword art of dragons?

Perhaps, he could steal Luo Ming’s sword. Or, he could look into crafting a new blade from the dragon claw in his hands. She would certainly be happy. The gift would also be an apology for putting her through the torment of having a pest like Luo Ping follow her around for a month straight.

In the end, he still wanted to kill a Spirit King. That was why he called Tiantian. That was why he let himself be caught. The sword master might be too tough but these two sword venerables were also quite good. With the second descent, he could do certain things that he couldn’t do before.

“Jasmine!” Chen Wentian called out through his soul sea, “Change of plans!”

“What, again?”

The original plan had been to force a spatial crack during a private meeting with Luo Ming. Then, with the strength of seven against one, including Chen Wentian and Chen Mo, they could surely force the sword master to his death.

The backup plan was simply to run away using all of his strength. If he had to reveal his strength at the Spirit King Realm, that was also acceptable as the Immortal Association didn’t truly know when he became a Spirit Lord. Only Gong Liyun knew but he could come up with ways to resolve her loophole.

Now, he came up with a new plan on the fly that was a combination of both.

“Jasmine, listen. Take out the map. Look for the nearest teleportation arrays around the Limitless Sword Hall. You should find one toward the northwest called Jiling City! It is home to the Jiling Temple, a Spirit Lord Realm existence that is related to the Southern Temple.”

This was the information he received from Zhe Xu’s soul. The relationship between the Jiling Temple and the Southern Temple wasn’t considered a great secret but it would have been difficult for outsiders to figure that out. Now, he had a direct source of information in the western subcontinent.

“I see it,” Jasmine replied, “To get there from where you are now, it will take around half a day if flying at normal speed.”

“Okay, search along the path to Jiling City, find the best place where Tiantian can prepare a spatial tunnel trap. Have her send both me and the pursuers to the predetermined battle location. Aside from Tiantian, you and the rest should stay where you are. Wait for our arrival.”

“You’re so bossy today… I kind of like it!”

She left him speechless until she came back a few moments later, “Tiantian says she can do it. We’ll wait for you. But, what about Lingxi?”

“I checked her situation. Luo Ping is smitten with her. In a short time, he won’t do anything to force her. If he tries, I will kill him. I still have use for him for Lingxi will have to bear with it for a little while longer.”

“Alright, be careful.”

She sounded worried, which made him smile.

“I’ll see you soon.”

As he said that, the blue flames around him started to change. The raging fire around the dragon claw became a dull ember while the flames that surrounded his body started to burn hotter and hotter.

“What are you doing?” Luo Xin asked harshly.

“Stop it!” Luo Qing ordered.

The two sword venerables pointed their swords at Chen Wentian, ready to kill him if he tried anything.

Chen Wentian ignored them and looked up at the sword master floating in the sky. His lips turned upward in a defiant smile and Luo Ming’s eyes narrowed in realization.

“Do you think you can run?” Luo Ming asked, “You have already landed in the center of my palm. There is no escape.”

“Are you sure? How do you know I can’t escape?” Chen Wentian retorted.

Luo Ming snorted, “You have nothing that can help you. No protective talisman, no teleportation treasure. There is nothing you can hide from me.”

Chen Wentian shrugged, “But have you considered that I will simply run away?”

With a burst of flames, he disappeared from where he stood and shot into the sky.

“Hahaha,” Luo Ming laughed, “Do you think you can run?”

His body turned into a blur and he gave chase.

Yay. I didn’t like the change so that lingxi just couldn’t cultivate the dragon sword art instead of it being something she’d learn later when it wasn’t so important to keep secret. So, I’m super happy it’s coming back around so that she can.
