You hit the nail on the head on why Ash and Dawn traded Buizel and Aipom. Turns out Buizel enjoyed Pokémon Battles a lot and Aipom liked the pageantry of Pokémon Contests, so they traded to make their Pokémon happier. Funny enough though, if you noticed Aipom isn't even with Dawn anymore when they showed their Pokémon. Something really dumb happened, and Dawn let her Ambipom go and become a Pokémon Ping Pong player. I'm not even kidding. Literally everyone who watched the Diamond and Pearl anime hated that shit.
