The reason that you keep hearing parodies, Dan and Swampy intend to mimic the 'mainstream' of the genre of the song they are writing. If it is a rock song, it is supposed to sound like every rock song, if it is a pop song, it is supposed to sound like every pop song. So while they are not direct parodies they are intended to be reminiscent.
