Concerning Consentacle Compositions and Witches, Etc.

Tentacles just feel like the right thing to draw at the moment. Here are some prelimaries/early versions of some stuff you've already seen, as well as some work in progress things.

These heavy black fill sketches just popped into my brain last night and i had to draw them. I like how they can feel like a graphic print, or maybe like a flash photo, overexposed and stark.

I love when you can imply a shape without showing it by just casting lines off in a direction and picking them up again later. Your brain will complete a lot in the empty space.

The weather's turning cold all at once and while I love the seasons change, it reminds me that winter is on its way. I've been making more time for helping people I care about deal with difficult things in the past couple months and it's both rewarding and tiring. I can't imagine choosing not to, for the sake of preserving my own energy, but the result is nevertheless, as I sit down to work, my mind wanders and reaches for easier problems to solve, hence all these witches.

I've got a complicated relationship with wholesomeness in my work because on the one hand, I think wholesomeness can cheapen the strife and struggle of real life experiences.

On the other hand, eroticism and feelings around sexuality is already a roost to many loud, squawking insecurities, shame and threats, so drawing someone just simply enjoying pleasure in the a safe space, through a rosey lens, feels like a really good thing.

I admire artists who make "serious work" but I often find that when I'm doing my best work, it's just making silly stuff. I've been weirdly thinking about Gary Larson's "The Far Side" comic strip a lot lately. Is this what people normally want to read as text accompanying their smut?🤣 I imagine not, but it's what I've got at the moment.

Back to tentacles, I discovered that putting a little bit of extra twisting, turning and kinks in the tentacles is a nice way of suggesting pressure and squeezing like on this thigh/butt area.

I'm toying with exploring short, simple visual novels as a way of expanding how my work can live in the world and involve the help of other people. I've always lusted after making videogames in particular and the low barrier to entry of a visual novel feels particularly inviting.

I'm thinking of using the garden witches as a kind of thematic vehicle for exploring that format.

If you're an avid visual novel player or have casually enjoyed one before, let me know what you enjoy about them, or what your favorite ones are! SFW/NSFW, I don't really care, I just want to know what you love about them and what makes you enjoy playing them!

Thanks everyone, happy sunday!

💙Winton

Black Tabby Games keeps coming up when I ask people so I’m definitely going to have to give their stuff a look! :) Also I appreciate the Life After Magic recommendation because I’m watching Sailor Moon right now for the first time so I have increased mental bandwidth for magical girl content :) Thank you Evelyn!

I really appreciate that point about Dark Fantasy, that says a lot about the way a lot of people think of the existence of sexuality in genre art. I can imagine a flowchart that says -> Does this story have sex? Y -> Is this story primarily a romance? N -> Sex is violent and traumatic. Even I find myself thinking too often about things by subdividing SFW/NSFW with different rules depending on the space they exist in, but you’ve made me think I should try reconsidering what it means to step across those ‘product categories’. Side note: Hehehe I really hope so, like it’s the trans-dimensional summoning equivalent of getting a normal restaurant meal but it’s got an unusually nice and considered garnish that just makes you say “oooh fancy!” Maybe the witches have learned that the tentacles are a little gentler or give a little extra effort when you summon them in cute cookware ;)

Black Tabby Games Scarlet Hollow won my heart and attention in a blink. Aside from the currently developing intricate storyline, there is wholesome, spooky and downright scary compelling art, wonderfull, Queer, nuanced charachters and their personality rich designs❤️ The backgrounds! The animals! ...the monsters ;) its a must play (recommended at nighttime for extra effect) and great inspiration, should you at any point wish to enter the world of VN and Videogames ❤️otherwise, id rec. Life after Magic ( original spin on magical girl, retro lovly pixel art dating sim VN ✨️)

The smut in question is so good that any sort of accompanying text would be welcome, but your thoughts on wholesomeness are very well stated. If it helps, consider that there is a whole ass subgenre of Dark Fantasy, which seems to be demarcated from Regular Fantasy primarily by its creators really going out of their way to emphasize sexual violence as a nigh-omnipresent threat in their fantasy setting. That being the case, I think there is absolutely a place for fantasy that hews in the opposite direction, in which characters take consent and pleasure seriously and sex is depicted as an affirmatively healthy and enjoyable activity for all concerned. Side note: Do the Tentacle Beings feel flattered when they're summoned in like a nice Le Creuset dutch oven instead of some cheap old stock pot?
