I'm really happy to be drawing these two again. Hopefully my brief absence over the past month doesn't result in wild style fluctuations, but I also feel like the drawings are turning out nice, like I'm folding some of the Peach x Daisy ideas back into this comic now.
The pages are a little bit WIP at this stage still with color and everything.
Now for some light waxing poetic about porn. I hope that talking so much about this doesn't have the same result as studying too much film so that you can't enjoy movies anymore because you're constantly thinking about structure or shot length whenever you watch anything.
I've been making a more focused effort to use the two different drawing brushes (one thick for things like Hero's hair, Pucca's ear tufts and foliage) and it's lead to some kinda fun visual moments I think are kinda fun.
Like how the same kinda marks come up against this border on the left but in one panel it's Hero's scraggly hair and on the other side it's blades of grass. It doesn't really mean anything profound but I think these moments of visual comparison are playful. Like the marks are saying 'haha look at how I can change meaning via context even though I look the same in both places'
Lines lines lines lines lines lines linesI guess I've reached the level of anthropomorphizing my actual lines and giving them voices. Send help.
I initially had a different set of drawings in these middle four panels but the longer I sat with them the more I thought they were all just doing the same thing and it felt a little silly, too much like an instant replay.
Previous version with somewhat redundant panelsI've been thinking about how changing what I show in these panels and the variety might give the viewer a different experience or make them experience the action differently, so some of these are basically Pucca's pov and others are the omniscient camera focusing on different moments of sensation.
I've talked a bit before how I don't necessarily love x-ray shots because it can feel a little clinical to me, but I like what they communicate- a sense of being filled or being squeezed, and that's fabulous for a viewer.
As an artist I want to have that in my toolkit so I can hopefully elicit those feelings in you, the reader, so I've been trying to play with more ways of showing that without having to slap a medical diagram in my comics.
Pucca grinding agains an Hero and invisible shaftI like this solution of framing an unseen action with text, or using decorative marks of Pucca's fur to suggest something you can't quite see.
I think one of the most successful frames in all of Libby & Holly Ch3 for me is actaully a kind of xray, just through clothes, with Holly's teasing finger. Kitt🐰 had the brilliant idea of adding this kind of darker halo around the ghost of the finger which makes it look like a white hot sensation and I love the effect! Especialy because we immediately see how Libby reacts.
poke!Happy Friday, everyone! I'll have another two pages of Pucca and Hero real soon! :D
