This is a bit of an assortment. A little bit ago I stumbled across this model sheet of Eve from Dragon's Lair II, which I was completely unfamiliar with. I'm a little too young for the game and had only seen Daphne, who left a strong impression.
But I was struck my how cute the character design was and how that if the character wasn't exclusively treated as a fat joke, she'd be a delight in her own right. So I started just looking at these very Don Bluth-y sensibilities and tried to translate them into a redesign.
I've had a little bit of a fixation on cartoon characters over the past year because while it's not what naturally flows out of my pens, I love the simplicity of them. And I thought a lot of this character was actually really lovingly drawn, the way the shapes are simplified and so appealing. Anyways, I just thought this was interesting and I needed a diversion.
I continued translating a little bit into elves, trying out a simplified shape Zelda and then a softer elf girl. Part of my interest in this is always the idea that I'll get back into animation stuff in a bigger way and that cartoonier things would be a nice way to do it.
Happy Monday!π
