Swordsman Options
Added 2025-04-08 06:05:09 +0000 UTCWhat I learned over the past few days is that I'm so incredibly out of practice drawing men that I don't have nearly the same sort of visual shorthand for adding variety to these designs. That's made more difficult because I'm a little less interested in the costume for these than I am their faces and hairstyles.
Maybe it's easier to do with satyrfolk because you they have different horns and fur patterns and such, but I have been very challenged by this exercise.
Now that I think about it, these did get a little bit easier to differentiate when I started considering fur patterns as well😏 I hope you enjoy selecting between these eligible swordsmen! If you'd like to look up close, check the attachments for a larger file! :)

My process for these is usually to draw one, then draw another in contrast with the first, rinse and repeat. The result of that is that I often throw out my first option because all of the iterations I do afterward make it look like the generic one. In the interest of getting the choice out of my hands I let this one go as it was, rather than trying to dwell any longer on the drawings to find yet another option to balance the poses. You've kinda pinned down the single biggest challenge with this work, where to spend the effort? 🫠 I still don't have a good answer, I just make choices and try to see how things play out to do better next time

He's got that come hither expression, but it's also the spread legs, perched on the rock and leaning on the sword so casual like... there's a lot more character in his posing than the others, basically, so i wonder if he subconsciously stands out because of it?? Nothing wrong with his design, its strong in its own right for sure. Just something I'm wondering based on the vote spread.

A is also kinda cute, B is the one who stands out the least to me for some reason.
