Well friends, happy December. We survived November 🫠

I don’t know too many people in my life that aren’t feeling dismal,🫂 but I just wanted to say I’m really grateful for the support, community and inspiration you all give me by being here💚

⏹️CYOA Pt 17

Straight to the point- not my best month for goal completion. I was only actually at home for two weeks in November due to travel, first a weeklong pseudo-vacation trip to NYC during which I didn't really work, and then a week visiting my partner’s family over Thanksgiving during which I tried and failed.

I suppose I deserve to take a vacation now and then but I really didn’t account for it in my goal setting and that was a mistake. In spite of all that though, I still have a lot to show and tell:

While in NYC I picked up some really fun books. I visited Forbidden Planet, Strand Bookstore and Kinokuniya. I'm a big fan of Soreyu, a Japanese illustrator (twitter link) who's work has a kind of crazy poppy energy I love a lot combined with a lot of layered graphic elements and text and stuff, it's a delight. I also picked up The Illustrated History of Girlie Magazines which I still haven't started reading, might be no good but it has some fun prints of old magazines in it.

And not to overshadow the others but...THE NAUGHTY NINETIES? I freaked out when I found this.

I had no idea this book existed, you'd think I'd have stumbled across it while working on Fitting for a Lady, but nope.

This is something my assistant Kitt🐰is focusing on while I continue to put the finishing touches on Libby & Holly Chapter 3. Beyond helping out with the store stuff, we’re working on exploring ways to make our work more collaborative, so you might see more snippets of her contributions in the coming months.

Like these manga Libby & Holly sketches she colored that I'll be sharing separately! So soft 🥺 I'm happy to be working with people again, being a freelancer can be kinda lonely.

My sketchbook activity was kind all over the place and, like the goals, some have been completed and other are still in a messy state.

These witch and girlfriend drawings mostly made the cut. But there's a lot that I haven't refined at all yet.

I'm still playing with animation sketches but they don't crop very well😅 Like this Libby and Holly animation loop.

This last short loop of a witch I think deserves some more coloring love before it'll be complete.

✅ Witch fanart- I find it really gratifying to draw witches. It’s just enough of a theme I feel like I make endless variations on. A little bit of medieval fantasy when I need it, a little bit of modern day vibes when I'm feeling that instead.

Gold patrons saw many of these pieces in a slightly rougher state earlier on in the month. Especially this park witch, which transformed quite a lot after I got back from NYC.

Truthfully I don’t think I’ve done a super good job with responding to all the poll prompts but I was letting myself focus a bit more on the contemporary witch side of things this month.

The November color palette was really favorable too, I didn’t know how much flexibility I would find in it, but it was kinda perfect. I set up my December color palette to be a colder variation on the same idea.

My goals for December will carry over from November, and I fully plan on continuing making holiday witch stuff even though it’s not, because honestly, why stop?
