October Sketches Manga Libby + 1920s style

These are the things that have been rattling around this month. My love affair with cartoonier art styles continues and sometimes I indulge them like this.

I always have in the back of my mind this potential for a roaring 20's art deco type project but I only know how to draw cute feminine faces in the style so I tried to expand that idea but I'm not totally convinced by it.

I've been listening to a lot of George Gershwin music in recent months ever since seeing Rhapsody in Blue performed at the KC Symphony along with some other cool American composers. It led me to this early Gershwin musical Crazy for You.
I really like this art, and that of course makes me want to see what it would be like if it was lewd πŸ˜› I'm sure we can all relate to this impulse.

Mostly I like the blend of finely detailed, weighty clothing with really simplified heads. To me erotic art is all about finding the little ingredients that make a thing feel sensually relatable. The stuff you can feel when you look at it. I'm sure we collectively don't have a lot of experience wearing spats, for example, but when I look at this poster I get a sense of how those pants fit even though they're simplified and I think that's really satisfying to look at 😁

Enough rambling for now! Happy Thursday!

mostly that shading one with the dots that you use. its very nice. I might make a version of my own. I am constantly trying new brushes and modifying/making my own. I am still not very happy with the brushes I have, but then again, its a moving target.

Mandy Lovelace

I do share my brushes when people ask! πŸ˜… Surprisingly it doesn't come up that often. I'll have to double check but I think the brush I'm using on the 1920s style is from @wamudraws that you can get off their Patreon! Was there a particular brush you were interested in?

Winton Kidd

I think so too!! 😌 I'm just imagining all the looong cars I would get to draw lol. Not the point but still fun

Winton Kidd

Isn't it tho?? I have style envy over historical art styles all the time they're so fun. 😭

Winton Kidd

πŸ™πŸ˜Œ ❀️ I'm glad to hear this

Winton Kidd

Thank you Wuff! I think I have to do style explorations like this on occasion or else I would go stir crazy working so consistently in one style

Winton Kidd

It's encouraging to hear that this stuff is interesting to read about Richard! I'll try to make a point of doing these sorts of things more regularly!

Winton Kidd

I love seeing your style experimentation! SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSOooooooo... I'm sure this is a question you have gotten before, but... do you share your brushes or no?

Mandy Lovelace

Great stuff! A deco project would be fantastic!

Matthew C Baker

I love seeing you emulate older styles like this, that's such a cool look!

Anastasia

I LOVE the 1920s stuff. Right up my alley.

Aristotle Fellatrix

Oh wow, she looks so cute in this style! Lovely style exploration!

Wuff_Boman

Gotta say, I love these post where you talk about your inspirations and art philosophy, it's like popping the hood of a sports car and getting to see what makes the engine tick!
