I think I prefer to work on figuring out how to translate what I have in my head and then to see how different or similar it is to what other people's opinions of her is. For fan art I always look for a quality of their personality to try to express as well as a particular visual direction to play with. Part of the fun is seeing those two things interact while I'm working and then seeing how well I hit the mark with you guys after the fact :)
