Not sure about the spelling exercises. Usually the thinking part of my brain is in the way of trance, so it’s best to send it to sleep and try not to activate it again. Maybe natural English speakers don’t activate for spelling, but I certainly do. Yes, there are other ways: Shibby has a file that works by overwhelming the thinking part by having to listen to four independent overlayed / interweaved whispering voices / tracks at the same time, which also works. Then there are fractionation techniques that aim at exhaustion of the thinking brain by going down into trance and up again repeatedly: Those don’t really work with me, as I always want to stay down, when I’m down, and I don’t drop so fast and effortlessly. When you made me spell, I didn’t like it at first, because it surfaced me. By the end I just waited for you to say the word and stopped investing effort into the spelling; more or less treating the sounds as not meaning anything: a good pet can just enjoy the Singsang of its owners voice without understanding every word anyway. As always, the triggers I liked most, are the ones with obvious connotations that play into my usual fantasies: going deeper, sinking, holding still / feeling pinned down, feeling your weight.
