“A fish out of water” is a classic storytelling technique that we see time and time again, and the Samurai of Hyuga series is no exception. Whether it’s playing shogi, teaching a bunch of brats how to swordfight, or campaigning as a politician, MC is constantly put into situations they aren’t well-suited for.
The dramatic struggles and funny situations this makes for is why I love this technique so much. We have this badass swordmaster with some demonic, overpowered, light novel protagonist-tier fighting ability…but that skillset doesn’t help much when you’re dealing with teenage student drama at the lunch table!
Chapter 2 is interesting because it gives our fish (the ronin) a sip of the water they’re so desperate for…and the results are, well, you’ll have to read to find out!
