2025-10-05 05:43:14 +0000 UTCI am so happy to see you are following the AFI top 100. imbd is rather biased toward modern film and as such they really aren't very objective about film. This film isn't only noteworthy for its special effects but also that it is one of the first movies to use a soundtrack. If you look at the 1931 Dracula for instance it is very silent throughout.

I am glad the movie is pre-code. Some of the suggestive dress and revealing of skin (and the kiss) may not have survived the code? You got a few chuckles out of the ‘gore’ – all the killing things and people falling to their doom as you said. I did too. The effects (stop-motion animation) were apparently groundbreaking at the time. Further, "the 1933 King Kong has a critically acclaimed and influential score by Max Steiner, considered by many to be the first great modern film score."
