Displaced Hero (Chapters 59-62)

Time for the last release of the month, folks! Right on time too! Now, before anything else, a quick bit about the maps. There will be a more detailed comment relating to them attached to the post, but the basics are:

1) The map is pieced together from Screenshots of this map. The map isn't fully accurate. There are worlds missing from it that are on other maps. And it doesn't reflect the right era. I end up using that map tool the most often, however. It's a little annoying there isn't a way to get a full image of it, resulting in me needing the screenshot method.

2) The one with only red drawn over the map shows a rough outline of Hutt Space. More in the comment on why it's only rough.

3) The map with a key and hyperlane highlights shows more or less how things stand as of the end of chapter 62.

I thought people might enjoy the visual, so I spent the time roughing out how the campaign is going. It's not perfect, as you'll see from the details in the comment. But it's something!

One other point! Specifically, a tiny warning that there's a bit more wall-of-text and data dump in this set of chapters than usual. I tried to break it up so it wouldn't be too bad, but if it is a bit dry for you, don't worry that everything is going to go that way in the future. It's not. I'd actually hoped to offset it by getting his meeting with Padme into this release, along with a possible lemon for Mei. But it didn't quite work out. Both of those will likely pop up in the December release, instead ;-).

Now, enough blathering from me! This is a solid 15.5k word release, which I'm quite happy with overall, as it helps highlight the sheer scale of what they are attempting a bit. Along with dropping a lot of lore hints, for those who are knowledgeable enough to spot them! Enough details that a particularly clever soul might be able to start picturing in their mind just why Izuku's little gambit is going to have effects on the Clone Wars...

As always, the new content is attached here in various formats. I will also, of course, update the Pinned Post with new master files for the story shortly. I will also, as I've taken to doing most of the time recently, be creating a set of author's note in the comments. Though I recommend not reading them until after the chapters, as they will contain spoilers. Enjoy, everyone!

Ugh. Apparently I did? Might have to tweak that scene into something slightly different. Thanks for pointing it out. I'd still had it in my 'too include' notes rather than having it checked off, I guess.

Novus Peregrine

Didn't you already mention aayla convincing his secretary to wear a bunny suit in an earlier chapter ?

DarkestCalling

Finally getting around to the edits. Though I'm just updating the master files this time, in order to save myself some pain and suffering :-p. It will at least make sure what eventually gets put out on other sites is the edited version. Thanks for the help!

If nothing else you can just come up with your own explanation for how it works/create something similar and have it explained in-setting by having Mei get access to some old database/scans or something from within Hutt space. The Hutts are hoarders after all. Heck when they stole some of the moth balled fleets they could find some old scans in the computers and Mei reverse engineers/creates her own version based off knowing it is even a possibility. Or interdiction satellites in their systems preventing direct hyperspace access to their planets/give early warning as an attacking fleet has to arrive from far enough out to prepare

Keht Jelicho

I actually ran across that recently as well. But ran into the same problem you did in that I couldn't find enough information on it. I haven't tried looking up the source material or following down all the links to try and sort out just what it was all about.

The Foreign Traveler

So, I just came across an interesting bit of lore. Apparently roughly two hundred years before Naboo Blockade/ 230BBY there was a group called the Nihil that created something called the Stormwall to block off an entire section of the galaxy (it even expanded enough at one point to include Naboo within the Occlusion Zone as the territory inside the Stormwall was called). I haven't looked too in depth to the topic (the wookiepedia entry didn't actually give a whole lot of info on the zone itself, might have got more looking into the Nihil), but as soon as I read about it I immediately wondered if Izuku's people could get one of the devices that powered the Stormwall or any scans/plans of them or the Stormwall itself. I figured that the reason it was beaten was likely at least partially due to it covering too much area and not having the ships/people to monitor it. But if smaller instances were within it, say a single system or small hidden territory? Well that sounds like it could be a better option than even planetary shields in some ways, and at the very least a good first line of defense. Idk, it just seemed to fit with their factions use of older tech updated to modern tech standards. And if they could make mobile/ship-borne deployment possible it could be another method of having interdiction ships. Or even a way to cut a planet off from reinforcements while attacking.

I honestly wish I could have gotten a bit farther along for this one. But there are so MANY things happening all at once that I needed to show at least snippets of that I ran out of time :-p. Thankfully, this is one of the stories that's always updated monthly.

Novus Peregrine

Thanks for the chapters! Great to get some new chapters of this great story! Great too see the Wookiees getting in on the action and I am very much looking forward to the meeting with Padme! With everything going on here, that we get an update on or a look at, I am looking forward to seeing how events develop in the next chapters in December! Can't wait 😁!

Chapter 62: A/N: I'm still trickling in some of the tech advancements they've made. I have these all pretty much outlined, but didn't want to shove them down everyone's throat all at once. Hence why things like the QEC systems weren't mentioned during the fleet and ground force detailing. A/N 2: Chewie showed up! At least in a mention :-p. I discovered while doing my research that his father had been a negotiator during the mess between the Wookiees and Trade Federation over Alaris Prime. I couldn't help using him here as a result, since he both fit and it allowed me to sneak in a little cameo mention of a main character... A/N 3: Interdictors are a major advantage. Just like stealth ships. I wanted to show in both cases that these are things that they haven't totally worked out yet. Yes, they have some major talents working with them, but they aren't able to work on everything they want to, as quickly as they'd like. Nor is Mei's existence handwaving away every tech difficulty. Her perspective is HELPING them slowly improve certain tech, but she's not totally breaking everything ;-). More just providing new eyes, from a different tech base, to look at and point out places where something really stupid has become common. Honestly, only the Null Torpedoes and QECs are really major departures from existing SW tech capabilities. And even there I think they fit with the sort of bleeding edge R&D we regularly see in the universe...

Chapter 61: A/N: I've totally had the bunnygirl outfit for his PA planned for a while. I just needed to find a place to use it ;-). That said, despite their byplay, I don't really intend to have him get involved with Izuku and Aayla. Aside from perhaps some lite voyeurism or some such. Instead, I'm seriously considering having her get involved with one of Padme's handmaidens, assuming Padme gets 'involved' with Izuku and Aayla.

Novus Peregrine

Chapter 60: A/N: So, this chapter was IMPORTANT in that it helped show the prep work that Izuku and Co put into this effort even more than the fleet build up did. They haven't just invaded Hutt Space and hoped for the best. They also arranged for slave revolts both within and without Hutt Space, with the intention of both securing their strategic position AND disrupting the Hutt's attempts to respond. I also showed, with Ryloth, that they haven't ONLY been working on the one angle. Also, that I haven't casually forgotten bits of my own foreshadowing :-p. Cutting off one source of slavery, that just so happens to be a project Aayla would love to get behind and push, made sense. Once I puzzled out more-or-less how Ryloth seems to function, it made even more sense to arrange a sort of shadow takeover there. A/N 2: Much like with Wattoo, I also choose to take a middle road with Ryloth's senator. He's disliked and bashed in a lot of fics as he's both corrupt and in Palpatine's camp. However, all actual canon evidence shows that, whatever else he might be, he actually DOES care about Ryloth. The fact that a massive boom economy and industrial overall for his world would also enhance his own wealth and prestige only made it more likely he'd jump onboard. The fact it also places someone in Palpatine's camp that is going to be very disruptive to anything that would hurt Izuku's interests, because of how heavily those interests are now invested into Ryloth, is also going to be interesting ;-). A/N 3: I hope I managed to surprise a few people with why Fay needed a business suit ;-). Jabiim reflects a couple of things. One of the most important, though, is that Izuku is still Izuku at core. He's a Hero, and the idea of blaming an entire race wholesale doesn't sit well with him. From his outsider's viewpoint, he believed there had to be 'some good in them' and went looking for it. This led to him discovering that there ARE Hutts that aren't sluggy criminals. There are very, very few of them mentioned even in the EU. But I'm with Izuku on this one in the belief that there would have to be at least SOME 'white sheep' in among them. A/N 4: Another small note on Jabiim, for those confused. I used Jabiim's EU description, instead of the current canon one. This was less intentional than it was simply what I was familiar with for that world. It's an unusual case in how drastically different they are. The same is also true for Ryloth, where I leaned more to the EU side.

Chapter 59: A/N: So...I'm not great at describing ground combat, apparently. This chapter was rough to figure out and write. I hope it came out okay? I have a better handle on fleet maneuvers and fleet combat, and Izuku really shouldn't be on the ground that much. So it isn't that big an issue. Even if it disappoints me I can't play with the shiny mechs and power armor as much as I'd like T-T.

About the map! This comment is a bit of ranting about the map :-p. But it should also be informative. First off...the map's accuracy has issues for a couple of reasons. The biggest one of those is that the outlines of various sectors, regions, and bits of space are reflective of the IMPERIAL era. Not the pre-clone wars era. That means, most relevantly, that Hutt Space is smaller than it should be. Just as one ready example, if you look to the galactic south of Hutt Space, just outside it and a little to the eastish, you'll see Gamorr. According to the various bits of lore, Gamorr was within Hutt Space prior to the Clone Wars. But both the Clone Wars and the Empire's aggressive expansion shrunk Hutt Space a fair bit. As such, pretty much any map you can find that shows Hutt Space is a bit inaccurate for the time period the story is set in. In addition to that...you might be wondering about the giant ? mark. That is over the rough region that I THINK 'Kintan,' home of the Nikto, resides. There is no official information on it's proper position. The only think we know is that it's roughly in the same cluster as Vodran and Klatooine. I placed it where I did as the Hutts found all three worlds in rapid successor during their early pre-republic days. It makes sense they are roughly on a line heading away from the core of Hutt Space, as the Hutts would have been mapping a hyperspace route and finding systems 'along the way.' Aside from those explanations, you'll also note that I marked a couple of points of interest. Tythe in the lower left, of course. And Abrion Major since it was mentioned in the chapters. Jabiim, for those that don't want to look it up, is pretty much a straight shot north of Hutt Space and not too far from Ossus. You can, I think, see that I've tried to keep most of Izuku and Co's operations focused on the region called 'The Slice.' The vast majority of his major operations take place within that region, though their early explorations when he first arrived take place north of there, along the Perlemian Trade Route. It's probably obvious just from the key and the story. But I marked using the various colors of green to show the stages of the campaign so far. Worlds taken in the first assaults, followed by the hyperlanes captured in the initial rush, then the additional hyperlanes captured toward the end after the minor time skip. The end result, as you can see, very nearly cuts Hutt Space in half vertically. Which is both an advantage and disadvantage on a strategic level.
