Mostly, to be honest, that's because the content I had an outline for ended up being around 3,000 words short of my monthly target for this story. The part that I thought would take up a lot more word count ended up just...not...for reasons I'll go over in chapter 42's author's note. Anyway, I actually did know what the next thing I wanted them to do was. But I hadn't properly outlined it yet. So I had to scramble to outline the next section, that was going to be in the next update, so that I didn't screw something up by not planning all the bits out properly. It worked out fairly well, as there was a decent stopping point I could make use of without fully launching into their next adventure. But it took me an extra day as a result.
Anyway. I'm happy with the result, and it hit right at the 15,000 word target, so...yay? As always, the new bits of the story are attached here in PDF, Epub, and Docx formats. I'll be updating the Pinned Post with the new Master Files in a few minutes, and adding chapter commentary/author's notes to the comment section of this post sometime in the next hour or so.

Why me? Couldn't this have waited until someone ELSE was Master of the Order?!" Why? Because he was friends with Thracia Cho Leem, a Jedi Master who blatantly disregarded that whole part of things to marry multiple men the galaxy over and have kids with more than one of them. His tyrad will be a thing of legend, especially when the response is just "K, and?"

So he's stuck between being really pissed at the sheer amount of work they ambushed him with, and really impressed with them shattering a major slaver guild. The fact that he's probably starting to see Shatter Points everywhere, slowly increasing in number, is probably not helping him either :-p.

In fact, if things proceed more or less as planned, the first one should be in July's update. Just a small one from Anakin's perspective. Larger ones, from Palaptine and the Jedi Council, will take longer. Currently, Izuku and Co haven't attracted attention on a truly galactic scale yet. Mostly since they are effectively operating outside Republic Space with their vigilantism. Only their business stuff really touches on the Republic just yet. Which is delaying people taking much notice...

2024-06-25 17:12:08 +0000 UTCChapter 43: Author's Note 1: Woohoo, moving more in the direction of getting Mei involved, now that this story has been officially declared a multi-pairing! A whoooollle bunch of people specifically called her out as 'she should be involved.' And I sort of agree, to the point I'd even included bit and pieces that could be considered buildup for it. Right now, she's the only one I've solidified as a certainty to join them. Author's Note 2: For the curious, the bits I added to this chapter that originally would have been next release, was all the stuff about seeking out Lightsaber Crystals. It was always the plan that they were going to do that soon, Izuku has been using a borrowed saber for much too long. But I hadn't actually solidified all the details. I knew what Crystal Izuku was getting (someone actually guessed it a while back...), but not what Aayla's second one was going to be. Likewise, I hadn't figured out exactly where they were going to go to get them. Which is why I had to sit down and figure out how to make all the pieces fit. What I decided on for Aayla ended up giving me the perfect excuse for another thing I've wanted to do from the start but hadn't worked out the mechanics of yet. And a visit to Tython was always in the cards and fit decently with the plan for Izuku's crystal. But I had to sit down and work out those connections before I had them start the seeking process, and I hadn't done that yet...

2024-06-25 17:03:05 +0000 UTCChapter 42: Author's Note: Okay, so...this is the chapter I originally thought was going to take up a lot more space. I mean, it's a full planetary invasion! But, when it came right down to it, I realized I didn't actually want to expand on it in exhausting detail. Not because I don't want to write action. But rather, minor spoiler here, because that sort of thing is going to happen a LOT later on in the story. I kinda don't want people burning out on it before we even get to the point that fleet battles and planetary warfare is going to get super common? Better, I decided, to show it in snippets this time. Then, when they build up to where I intend them to go with all of this, have the battles I do go into be ones that are a bit more epic is scale/size. This was honestly sort of still training wheels for their currently-still-unnamed overall faction.

2024-06-25 16:54:36 +0000 UTCChapter 41: Author's Note 1: Star Wars weapons tech is really fucking schizophrenic. Particle Beams are Actually a Thing in universe, but the handful of references I found to them make me think that the writers who DID use them had no idea at all what a Particle Beam actually is. For that matter, autocannons are a thing in some primitive parts of the SW verse...but Railgun/MAC technology is weirdly absent. Frankly, the ODPs from Halo would be several magnitudes more dangerous than basically anything mounted on a defense station in SW. At least that we know about. Given the tech level required for MAC defense platforms like that is WAAAAAYYYY below the SW tech level, it is REALLY bizarre that they are absent in favor of plasma weapons with hilariously low ranges and terrible muzzle velocity. Basically, the only thing I can chalk this up to is the entire galaxy getting into screwy patterns of thought and not bothering to consider alternatives. I mean, they technically ARE only about 1,000 years out of a sort of dark age where a lot of knowledge was lost. And those 1,000 were years of peace. But STILL. So, yeah. My science might not be perfect. I've got a pretty solid understanding of the physics involved with the various weapons. But I'm not, you know, actually a physicist. So everything might not be entirely accurate, but it should be at least somewhat so...and Mei isn't about to ignore basic realities like the range difference between stationary defenses and mobile ones -_-. I'm trying to keep it balanced, though, by doing things like making the Particle Beam weapons she came up with extremely power hungry so she can't just slap a dozen of them on a capital ship. Author's Note 2: The MC80 cruisers were, in fact, originally passenger liners. And there is a version of them that was designed/redesigned at one point (I think by the Alliance or New Republic) to carry people. I used that model as a basis for my numbers, though I actually LOWERED the total number of people it was claimed it could lift by quite a bit. Both because it seemed a bit high, and because I wanted this early version of it to be as much a medical ship as an evac ship. The Mon Calamari, of course, wouldn't have had any issue building what's essentially an aid/relief vessel, despite the size.

2024-06-25 16:43:51 +0000 UTCChapter 40: Author's Note 1: So, right now even knowing what RHE and KDY are up to is only of limited help to the Jedi. Construction on the initial wave of Venators for the Clone Wars has started, but without knowing who ordered them or why, there's too many possibly legitimate reasons for them to exist. It's even worse for the RHE equipment, as they aren't as far along. Mass manufacturing ground hardware is much faster than capital ships, so I assumed here that those projects had less priority to Sidious than the Venators would have. Author's Note 2: Curiously, I actually DIDN'T change the date of Aayla's promotion to Knighthood. That apparently did happen in 28 BBY. Which, given that I actually AGED Aayla UP by a year, means she would have only been 20 originally. That seems...really contradictory to all the lore that goes on and on about how young Anakin was when he was promoted. He was 19, I think. So...only a year of difference? I mean, less training years, I suppose. But still a little weird. Obi-wan, in comparison, was something like 24. And the average was supposed to be between 22-24, supposedly?
